Who pays for Best Man suit?

OctoberBride, on July 27, 2017 at 2:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 31

My fiance's brother (Best Man) just called and said he isn't going to pay for his tux rental and he can't believe that he is expected to do so...

In every single wedding my fiance and I have been in (and there were MANY) we always paid for our own outfits! Whether it be a bridesmaid dress or a tux rental. I haven't ever heard of the groom/bride paying for the bridal party's outfits.

Am I out of the loop on this one? Is paying for the best man and MOH what people do these days?

    That's literally his only job.

Pay for his attire and stand up beside FH.

He does. It's still time for him to be a guest.

That's what I thought! He said he was a groomsman before two times, and both times the groom paid for his rental. But both of those grooms are VERY wealthy so I figured that might be why they offered to pay. I figured that was not the norm, they were just being really nice.

If you'd LIKE TO, then by all means pay. However, everyone usually pays for their outfits. I will say that the one stipulation, I can think of, to this rule is if you are being VERY specific on their attire and they have to pay for. If it is extremely high priced, I could see his brother being a tad upset but he always has the right to attend as a guest if this really is a hang up for him. I believe in surrounding yourself in a drama free bridal party. Also, are you both paying for the wedding or is family offering assistance.

Tell him to budget and get it his self, or save the money and give it as a gift when hes a guest.

We are using Weddington Way so the (classic black) tux is around $150 which I think is normal right? We are paying for the wedding ourselves...

BM buys/rents his own suit. DH and I ended up paying for my little brothers suit, but he is 16.

I am now concerned that if we DON'T pay for his rental we will look like the "cheapo bad guys"....that we should just give in and pay for it. Otherwise everyone will wonder why his brother is no longer the best man and it will start family drama. Ugh.

Don't worry about that. Your guests are not going to wonder anything and you're not the cheapo bad guys. That's not the usual process.

Like the others said, usually it's the bridal party that pays for their own dresses and suits.

For my bridesmaid, I openly said that I was going to buy their dresses when I asked them to be in my bridal party. My FH is actually just going to have his groomsman wear a simple black suit, which most guys already have.

If your FH's best man doesn't want to pay and your budget is tight, would just wearing a simple black or grey suit be an option for you guys?

The best man - unless you're feeling generous.

@SpringBride - I guess that is an option but the other groomsmen are fine with renting paying for their own, so if my fiance and the other guys all have the same great looking tux from the same place and then the Best Man has a different random suit on it might look weird. Oh Jeeze. Just when I thought we could get by without any silly drama!

    Are you in the UK?

I think I remember reading something a UK bride wrote a while back that the bride pays for the bridesmaids dresses in UK. Does this apply to the groom and groomsmen?

Yeah. Bridal party peeps pay for themselves. That being said, through Men's Wearhouse we got to pick one of the rentals to be free, and we picked the best man who is my husband's brother, because he has medical bills. But you shouldn't have to.

What .. no way make him pay for it ... your paying for his food at the reception .. the cost of rehearsal dinner and alot of times bridal party's don't give a gift ... completely rude to try and make you guys pay

He pays for it. If he can't afford it, then he can be a guest.
