Who is more "important" the maid or matron of honor & how much is too much personalization?

Mrs. Jayjohn, on April 28, 2010 at 1:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

I have both and I don't know who stands closest to me in the ceremony? Who is listed first on the programs, etc. Smiley atonished thanks ladies.

Also, We're thinking about having a custom cake topper made, going with painted glassware (just for Fh and I) that will have our pictures on them, but how much is too much personalization?

To my understanding they are equally important, the only difference is that one is married (the maid) and one isn't (the matron). But as far as who stands where I would almost think that the maid would stand closer to you with the matron next to her. Could be wrong though...

I have been wondering the same thing!!! I know I have been to weddings that had both, but I never paid attention.

I think you have it backwards: the matron is married and the maid isn't but I could be wrong. Right now I have the maid as being over the matron but it's only because she's like my sister. 8[ this is so confusing.

Sometimes the bride will decide to have both a Maid of Honor and a Matron of Honor. In this case, the "Maid" stands closest to the bride, holding her bouquet and serving as the witness.

That's from one website I found...let me keep looking though..Oh and you're right about the maid/matron thing...LoL...I was thinking right and typed wrong..LoL...It's going to be a long day.

I have my maid being over my matron too. I think I would just keep it like that. Most people probably won't remember anyways.

I think the cake topper thing is a cute idea!

I think I'll do the custom cake topper and just do regular glasses. I just didn't want our faces everywhere!

I would go by height LOL I wanted FH to have his groomsman as his best man cuz he's taller and my MOH is tall and I wanted them to match. I didn't even mention it to FH though, it's his choice, I just would have preferred it that way haha

I think your personalization ideas are great and you should make it yours as much as you want.

Umm, so the best man is about 6'9", Neither of my girls are even close to 6', we're all about 5'5"! so that won't work. lol.

Kshively - You're right, matron is married, maid is not. I have no idea about your other question, though. I'm only having a "matron" or honor because my maid of honor happens to be married. She's also the only one on my side in the wedding party anyways.

Yes the Matron is married and the maid is not...like the card game Old Maid - unmarried ha ha ha....too funny. I think you go with what feels right for you. Maybe go off of if one is older, or if one has never been in a wedding before...or if you have one who is closer to you pick them and just say you picket it based on something else. My cousin has been in a few weddings and she is always the first to walk out and the last one at the table and she was not happy that was how she was in my wedding but I had to based on the groomsmen too and I told her I did it by age, she is the yougest.

maid of honor, then matron--- if you want to be all proper Smiley winking but honestly, I say the person next to you should be the closest person regardless of her title on that day.

Yeah I think the person closest to you should be who you are closest to either Maid or Matron. My friend had her sister as her Matron and she was closest as they are super close, closer than her other friend who was the maid of honor.

I agree that they are the same, but of course you do have to pick which one stands next to you.....so that one sort of ends up being the more important. I had a MaidOH and MatronOH, and ended up my MatronOH was the #1.

So Potters, what you're saying is that your maid of honor was #2? *snickers* sorry I couldn't resist!

Hey, thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. I'm having my sister as Matron and best friend as Maid. In my situation, I'm having my sister stand closest to me. This is just a personal preference though, not following any etiquette specificsSmiley smile

Ive always seen them as being equal positions. You could put whichever closest to you, I dont think anyone will think twice about it (you could also have one of them hold the bouqet and the other pix your dress when needed...etc).

If one is closer to you-have her next to you, or if one is your sister or something andthe other isnt-choose the sister, since shes blood
