Who holds the rings during ceremony?

We have no ring bearer or groomsmen. Only bride, groom and MOH at the altar. I was going to have groom hold both rings during ceremony. But my mother told me I was stupid and that my MOH should hold the groom's ring, and groom would hold bride's ring. Does it matter?

It doesn't matter! You could even have someone give them to the officiant before the ceremony.

I am putting FH's ring on my sisters thumb (she's the MOH). Keeps it in a safe place and she knows where it is, yadda yadda.
