Who gets a save the date?

Z, on December 23, 2009 at 4:21 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

I was getting my save the dates ready and realized that there are some people who are getting separate invitations but live in the same house. Because we're doing magnet save the dates I was thinking they don't all need their own? For example, my FH's friends are roommates so they would have three magnets on their fridge. Can I send them one and how would I address it?

I think you should send each party a separate invitation and STD. Just because they live in the same house, they don't all share mail, etc.

I think everyone thats invited to the wedding should get a save-the date, though out of town guests are definitely priority. I think it's generous enough of you to send separate invites to people living in the same house, so I wouldn't worry about sending separate magnets to people who live in the same house and will see them anyways

I'm planning on sending a save the date per family, then invitations are separate for all adults (18 and up)..but I'm addressing save the dates as "The Smith Family" or whatever, just so that we dont have to send out so many, but we're only sending them to our family members, since we know they'll all be invited for certain.

In that case, the roommates, i would send 1 to all 3. they dont need 3 magnets. but send them each a seperate invite.

Etiquette says that for every person over 18 in a house gets their own invite (like if there are grown kids in the house with their parents they each get one). I followed this rule when I sent my save the dates. But mine were just the cards, not magnets. If I had sent magnets then I probably would have only sent one to a household.

Since Save the Dates are more informal you could get by with sending one to each household, but make each roommate their own invitation.

Konichiwa and Pumpkin are correct. If you think the roomates won't have a problem with only one, go ahead and send one. Great wedding date by the way. It is my birthday!
