Who else hates their dress when bustled?

FutureMrs9415, on August 6, 2015 at 1:14 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 29

I really feel like it takes away from the dress. However, I do not feel like carrying my train around all night. It's not something I thought about when I picked my dress but it seems so poofy in the back. All I can think of is the wicked stepsisters from Cinderella! Lol. Ok, it's not quite that bad but it's what comes to mind immediately! I didn't take a photo of the dress pinned up in the bustle at my appt, but it's a mermaid style dress (Maggie Marianne, if anyone is familiar with it). Anyone else feel like this?! This is what I feel I look like. Ha

I don't hate mine but I definitely think it looks funny...like my mom just sent me pictures from my final appointment and I laughed out loud. But I like it, bustles are just kinda awkward things.

It does take away from the look of the dress, but its better than dragging your train and having it get ruined at the preconception, or someone tripping on it, or you tripping on it, etc...

My train has this sweep to the side kind of thing. I have a feeling any seamstress is going to suggest I add a side bustle to go with the flow. I hate side bustles. I don't know why, I just think they look awkward. I don't think I'll be a fan of any bustle I end up with, but at the same time.... I don't care LOL

I have the feeling I'll be pretty picky about the bustle until I just stop caring. I don't want it to be super awkward in the back.

I don't know what made me think of it but when I was dress shopping I kept having the girl pin it to show me what a bustle would look like. My aunt was shocked when I requested it but it did help me decide between the two styles (my dress came in two styles, one had a longer train). I LOVE how my dress looks bustle.

I'm getting my train cut off. When I was married the first time, I had a huge train, and it wasn't bustled up properly before the reception. People were stepping on me all night. I ended up with a large rip between the bodice and the skirting. I need to get that fixed so I can try to sell the thing.

Jeanne, exactly! I literally laughed out loud when I saw it for the first time. I guess it's depressing to think about the pics from our first dance and how Ill have this big ass puff butt behind me. It's technically under my butt, but same diff. It's funny how when you're trying on dresses you don't think of the logistics. Like, "oh this dress will be hell to sit down in", or "how will I walk around with 90lbs of tulle surrounding me?" Ha. I fell in love with the train but wasn't thinking about how it will end up tucked out of site anyway.

I was afraid of the bustle before I started alterations also. I had highly considered a wristlet. My seamstress showed me the 5 point french bustle. Its lower down than the regular bustle so it doesn't look like its coming out of your butt!

I'm doing a 5 point bustle as the seamstress recommended that to avoid bustle-butt.

Also, totally not related, but @JaKLyn I was looking at crafty projects on Jo-Ann's (that I'll never do because I'm not really crafty... just like to pretend that I would be all DIY one day), and I saw this project and thought of you and your obsession with dinosaurs....http://www.joann.com/dinosaur-lunch-tote/2665879P51.html?icn=project&ici=feature1

Sorry to go off topic for this thread!

I am either going to find a dress that has a detachment or just another nice dress to change into after the ceremony. Not sure yet though.

Jennifer, I asked the seamstress if we can shorten the train and she was appalled! Lol here is the back of the dress without the bustle (obviously) Plus, I had them remove two layers of crinoline from the bottom to lessen the poof.

I don't know what the 5 point bustle is, but I know that I have an under-bustle. She knew I didn't like how poofy it was and that's the one she recommended. Now I'm wondering if it's too late to change it?

I feel you! I hate how bustles look most of the time, so I feel like I will specifically be looking for a dress that doesn't have to be bustled!

@Elizabeth MaKyla just actually tore the handle off of her lunch bag, so this is perfect timing. She loves dinosaurs too

I have a different style dress--it's a ball gown--and I have 9 layers. I would just ask her if there's any other style that might lessen the poof lol.

@ Future, I'm having crinoline and train removed also... But I wanted to remove some of the poof as I'm having an outdoor wedding in Jul. LOL I didn't want to carry around all the beading and then have layers on my legs. I'd pass out! LOL. One thing about dresses now, they're more willing to do everything you want. Appalled or not, but willing to do it. My first dress had an atrocious bow on the butt. I begged them to remove it and they wouldn't. This was back in the 90s when we had the big bow butts.

    Incidentally, that's a beautiful dress!!

When I had my dress bustled, the seamstress at the bridal shop showed me and my mom how it should be done and I was happy with the look. Right after the ceremony, the photographer's wife (they work as a team) did my bustle, but she didn't bustle it like the seamstress showed us at the shop. I didn't know until I saw my wedding video that my ass looked like the tail on an airplane!! So, no, I didn't like how it was bustled but it's because it was supposed to be buttoned and then each point needed to be tucked and that didn't get done. Ah, well...
