Who decorates if there is no coordinator?

Cathy, on March 30, 2019 at 12:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 14
I’m planning the wedding myself, and the venue does not have a coordinator. I asked my aunt to do it, because she volunteered and was a professional event coordinator before she retired.

My question is who does the decorating for the venue? We are having the ceremony On a private yacht. Woukdnit be weird if I show up the night before (before the rehearsal dinner) and get the boat ready?
What about the centerpieces for the reception? I’m very anal retentive, and I want it to look the way I envision it. Should I just charge my aunt with this task, since she volunteered?

The couple is responsible for decorating if there’s no coordinator. If your venue doesn’t have one, I would highly recommend hiring a third party. You can take your aunt up on her offer if she wants to help, but I definitely wouldn’t leave her to do it all. You’ll have to ask your venue if you’re allowed to decorate the day before.

You could definitely ask your aunt or hire a wedding coordinator. We hired a coordinator and did Month Of, she will be setting everything up and help with the flow of things and giving tips to our vendors at the end of the night.

I’ll probably have my aunt do it, but I’ll have a lot of photos on how I want it arranged.

I’ll ask, but it may be tough, because the yacht club serves dinner the night before. I’ll talk to the club manager to see if I can at least get stuff out there.

I am DEFINITELY taking my aunt up on her offer!

Good idea! I’ll ask my least primpy (but most artistic) One to do it since we are going to do hair and makeup in the morning.

That doesn’t seem feasible, especially since the decorations have to go up on the day of the reception. I’ll be too busy with other stuff that morning,

Premake stuff so they can just put it up, you said you were annual. But then you are not going to have a part in setting things up? Plus decorating can take a few hours so that can leave your bridesmaid left out from getting ready with everyone else. Wich if I was a bridesmaid I would be pretty hurt by. and your aunt no time to get ready.

All centerpieces will be premade, and there won’t be any floral decorations except for the bouquets. it is just a matter of setting the tables and such. Form what I hear the caterer can do table set up.

I would check with your venue. I know with ours we aren’t allowed to have anyone (vendors or us) show up until 2 for our 6pm ceremony. There is no way I’d be able to set up and still have time to get ready. That’s great your aunt offered, but it’s still a huge job. Talk to your caterer to see if they set up the tables and such, some do, some don’t. You may need to look into hiring a DOC who does the minimum set up and breakdown you need.

I talked to the caterer; they said they will handle the tables place settings with silverware. I’ll have to see if they’ll do more.
