Who decides on bridesmaids dresses?

Alysa, on June 4, 2013 at 3:10 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

Did you let your girls pick out their own dresses or did you tell them what you wanted or pick them out yourself? I want them to be happy, but I also want them to wear something I like that fits into our color/theme.

I told my girls to buy a long, pale pink, & flowy dress in a bohemian style. One has picked out a dress that is $375, another is getting hers at forever 21. I love that they can shop within their price range.

I told my girls, what color, length, and where to get them.

In my best friends wedding, I was her MOH, and she had me pick out the dresses for all the girls, including the shoes and etc.

It just depends. You can do it however you like

    It's up to you.

i've been a bm where we all were told what color and what style. others where it had to be the same colour.

at my first wedding we just ask them to wear green and short they chose the rest.

some where i was told what colour and style we got some choice as.a group over style others I have just had a dress thrown at me and told to buy it and wear it.

I picked out a series of five dresses and let my girls choose their favorite three... then I chose my favorite two out of the three and then majority ruled when it came to the top two...

It's up to you, but if you pick out a dress make sure that you ask each of your BMs privately what their budgets are--that way you don't pick a dress that you love that someone can't afford.

I picked the color, length, and fabric and let them pick their own styles (picture attached). The problem with picking one style is that it won't always look good on every body type or some BMs might have to get a LOT of alterations so that they can squeeze their boobs in or keep them from falling out.

What you should definitely do is pick a color--it starts narrowing the search down.

Though it will ultimately be my decision, I've taken a few votes as to color and strap/strapless. Votes were tied both times. I'm torn on whether I want to do mismatch. But it will probably also greatly depend on what my MOH feels most comfortable in since she is the most top heavy

I only have one bridesmaid, so I gave her a range of colors she could choose from, and the style I had in mind, and off she went shopping. When she found a few she liked, we went to the shops together, so she could try them on and show me. She was paying for it, so I wanted her to get something she liked and could wear again.

I have dresses I like when its time my girls will try them on all have to be the same exact color but the style I am okay if they are not the same. However, ideally I would like them to be the same. OR everyone in a different dress. The only other thing I told the girls Is I may do one in each of our wedding colors. But no, my girls are not picking their own dress persay. I am not a fan of that personally I don't like colors being off and such.

I picked the color, they picked the style....about knee length and something they both said they could easily use over and over for other events!

It's really up to you, but because I really do not want to deal with it, I'm specifying what color, fabric, and length they should get and they choose their own dress. I don't need the stress if picking a dress for them and they hate it, not worth the trouble.

I picked the color, fabric, and designer, they picked the dress. The only one I'm worried about is my one sister, who picked a dress (but hasn't bought it yet) that I absolutely can't stand. Like seriously, the one dress by this designer I hate.

In the wedding I'm in, she picked the dresses. It's turned into a fiasco, because she took one very small bridesmaid in to try on the dresses, and the one they picked was made to be form fitting but the sample was a 14 so it fit loosely. A lot of us have to have serious alterations to the dresses because they are too tight in the hips.

I had a list for my BM under $100 because I didn't want them to spend too much money. I had colors in mind. I wanted to see what looked good on them because one's really brown (Indian) and the other is really white, so I wanted color that matched both skin tones. So, I went with them to look at DB. They ended seeing a $150 dress that was secretly what I really wanted them to get, but I didn't want to ask that much money from them. Well, they tried it on and loved, so I was happy.

I am still torn on what to do, but considering I have 10 bridesmaids (crazy, I know), and most are over 30 and live all over the US, and one lives out of the US, I'm leaning towards having them pick their own - within certain parameters like color, length, and fabric. I think it doesn't look good when all have the same type of fabric, but one has reall shiny/satiny one. I'm thinking the same shoes, letting them pick for example a nude peeptoe pump. I think it looks silly when some are in strappy shoes and others in big wedges.

I told them the designer and color, and let them pick their style. I chose dresses from J Crew and did different color blues for all of them.

SIL still had an issue with hers, even though she is the one who picked the style. Ah well.

I have been reading some blogs online where bridesmaids get upset when they have to wear the same dress. Like really, is it that much to ask to wear a dress I like for one day? I will definitely make sure they all approve of it first. And I want them to be able to find something to wear again, but I do want them all in the same dress.

I have three total, but one will be on a different dress. I took my moh (who is the same body type as another) out and scouted, then I took my larger bm out to try on the top three. We made the decision and told the third (who none of us could find a time when she could go with us) who loved it
