White Calla Lilies vs. White Roses

Kelsey, on November 17, 2010 at 10:37 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

I am trying to decide which I would like best. I like the simplicity of the calla lilies but roses are always nice. Anyone have any pros or cons that could help me decide?

Off the top of my head, I'd say weight and delicacy, weight is a con for the roses, delicacy for the cala lilies. Also weigh up cost and season if you want to put them in table decorations etc as well.

It depends on the style of your dress and overall feel of your wedding. If you're doing something more modern callas will fit the bill. If you are more on the traditional side then roses would be a good choice. I had the same decision and went with roses in the end. they are my birth flower and I love the smell. Also, it helps that they were way cheaper than the callas and come in a variety of colors so I can use in abundance without blowing the budget.

I'm also going with roses. These are my bouquets (this was a trial run with my mum) - https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/bouquet-trial/d4b0a1153589ca10.html

Andrene makes a good pt about the colours available - it means you can have the same flowers in a different colour for bridesamids.

I do love the calla lilies though, and I've seen some great cala lily jewellery on etsy

Also, depending on the type of rose you use, you'll be able to get more volume out of it than a calla so you will use less blooms and sped less money.

Look at the costs - calla lillies are typically way more expensive

Agreeing with the others as to style and cost. Are callas a 'truer' white? I know that 'white roses' can vary - am not sure about callas. (In those pictures, the callas look whiter than the roses to me.)

Is it just me that finds them a little bit too "erotic"? lol

Our wedding is definitely more modern. Our venue is very architectural. The florist I am speaking with said that a small brides bouquet (which I prefer) of mini calla lilies would be about $85. I am not using flowers in any centerpieces or anything, it would just be for the bouquets. I am not even doing bouts.

Here is a pic of our venue:

I like you venue kelsey! I prefer roses for my wedding, but calla lilies are elegant too. Maybe a mixture of both (for a bouquet and or centerpiece). White carnations could fill in gaps too as well as cut down the costs and they add some great texture!
