Which venues tend to book up really fast?

Tara, on August 12, 2019 at 9:01 PM Posted in Massachusetts Planning 0 6

Hello,

I am originally from Boston but currently live in CA. I would love to get married in New England in summer or fall 2020. I have a bohemian style - I want my wedding to be a West Coast meets East Coast vibe, so I've been looking into barn and museum/gallery weddings as they seem like the most flexible place for executing my vision. The guest list is looking between 80-150 (mine vs the family's Smiley smile )

However from reading some forum posts and checking some online availability calendars, it looks like some places are extremely popular and book years in advance! Peirce Farm in Topsfield, for example doesn't seem to have any Saturday dates from June-early November.

I would prefer not to wait til 2021, so I would love to hear anedoctally from y'all which venues in New England tend to have a long wait list, so I can prioritize my venue visits when I return home (not as often as I'd like).

Sorry in advance for any naivete - just want to hear from other brides what the landscape is like.

Hey Tara! Welcome to the WeddingWire community! It’s so great to have you here!

    Congratulations on your engagement!

As you can imagine, It’s very difficult to assess which venues will be booked for specific dates as there are so many factors that will inform this.

I think the best plan that you can make is to find a handful of venues that you are interested in and go from there. You don’t want to not contact a venue that you love just because they tend to book up quickly.

You should also keep in mind that just because somewhere is a popular venue, doesn’t mean that it will fit your taste and vision for your wedding.

Have you gotten the chance to check out the WeddingWire venue search? There are lots of options under the ‘Barn’ and ‘Museum’ filters that you can check out!

That's a tough one to answer but from my experience venues in general book up fast. My venue does not fit your criteria but I know they are pretty much booked for 2020 with a few random open dates here and there. Your best bet is to make a list of venues you are interested in and and start making phone calls ASAP to find out who has availability. If you are a little flexible with your date you will find something. Good luck!

Hey Tara! I am in the same boat as you. I live in boston and was looking at barns in the new england. The ones booked for 2020 were the ones in my price range so I do think budget plays a role as well! What I did is reached out to venues and let then know we wanted a Saturday date (we have a lot of people traveling for our wedding) and moved on from there. I will put a side not that I am still looking at venues since it is also about finding ones you like.

Valley View Farm in Western MA books up fast! It's gorgeous though for a spring/summer/fall wedding — they have an outdoor deck for cocktail hour, they already have chairs and decor, etc. https://www.valleyviewfarm.info/

Also the Montague Retreat Center (also in Western MA) books up at least a year in advance. http://www.montagueretreatcenter.com/content/weddings

This isn't in MA, but The Lace Factory is a beautiful revitalized factory in Deep River, CT that I think is a stunning wedding venue and kind of goes with your bohemian/museum-y feel. And it's super New England. http://thelacefactory.com/

Another barn wedding venue that I actually booked but then canceled is Satoyama Mountain Farm in Vermont (I may be getting too far from Boston now, let me know lol). It's very competitive to book there as well. https://www.weddingwire.com/biz/satoyama-mountain-farm-rochester/09bd297a8aa5c043.html
