Which shrug or bolero should i get? Please pick one.

Marla, on July 23, 2019 at 5:59 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26
So, I’m feeling shy about my body in my wedding gown, so I’d like to wear a bolero or a shrug with it. My wedding dress is ivory with a lace overlay over a plain underneath lining and what looks to be pewter color beading. I’d love to wear a gold cover up, but the beading looks more pewter like. My fiancé wants us to include burgundy as a color in the wedding. I also like silver and red. Would any of these shrugs or bolero tops go well over a lace wedding dress with that satiny lining? These shrugs or boleros (the plain shimmery one and the rosette satin one) also both come in silver. I want to do something a bit different than traditional. My fiancé wants to wear a black tux with color accents of whatever main color we go with. Could you please help with suggestions? No one came dress shopping with me. I could use the advice. Thanks so much.

Also, the beading on these boleros and shrugs could be changed.

First, you look amazing! I love your dress!
Second I like the more simple #2 #3 rose like shrugs, red or white works. I'm a bit of a sucker for the white because it'll blender nicer with the dress.
I don't know what your choices for veil are but a high collared shrug will look better with a birdcage style veil because you don't want a lot going on in the shoulder area, whereas with the more plain ones you could opt for a longer veil if you want that.

There are quite a few there!! I was in love with one online and then went with my dress to try it on... I HATED it but fell in love with something completely else! I would take your dress and try on similar ones. David’s Bridal and many others will let you. Then decide the style that might go best!

When does it come in and when is the wedding? You could try them on when you do your fitting if it’s enough time to order one?

Thanks so much. I think I’ll be skipping the veil. If I do one, it’ll be the birdcage style. My other thought was a small floral head band or crown. So, you think either ivory or burgundy? Or, did you mean red?

It won’t get ordered until I’m done paying it off. Most of the shrugs and boleros above need to be handmade. It could take longer than 5 weeks to get the dress in hand.

I think ivory to match your dress or what ever the groom is using for his accent.
    I love flower crowns too.

Thank you. We were thinking either silver and or burgundy as an accent color.

Hmmmm wellll!!! I would do 3 or 5. I can tell you like she shoulder covers more than long sleeve, but my only fear is it might take away from how beautiful you look in that amazing dress with all the beading, etc. SO if it takes too long that’s what I would do and being red in with a necklace or bracelet

My fear is you might end up liking styles like the one I posted more, BUT I love the fun pieces you picked! Does the location let you try it on again even if you can’t get it in hand? They might have wraps to try too!

You have such beautiful and intricate dress, especially in the waist and neckline, I would be worried about the boleros taking away from that, and covering up a lot of the details you fell in love with. What if you had straps or cap sleeves added instead?

There are some absolutely beautiful ideas out there, that would be very easy to do. One idea that is rather unique, is using layers of strings of beads to drape over the shoulder like a cap sleeve. I’m attaching a few links below for inspiration.

Another thing to keep in mind: you decided to wear a very traditional, ivory wedding dress. You could have chosen a ball gown in any color, but you chose ivory. Do you really want to add that much color to a part of the ensemble you plan on not removing at all? What if you picked a bold colored shoe instead? Ruby slippers and/or dramatic flower crown (google traditional flower crowns for something different) would be absolutely stunning and classic!

First link- to recreate this, have a thin spaghetti strap added, and make several strings of beads. Have seamstress attach the strings to the dress inna layered look. http://luxurybrides.net/dress/beaded-vintage-wedding-dress/

Second link- just google “shoulder jewelry” or “shoulder necklace” https://www.amazon.com/Wedding-Shoulder-Necklace-Rhinestone-Accessory/dp/B07DT845SC

Third- simple tulle wrapped around shoulder and gathered with a broach. https://www.etsy.com/listing/270933570/bridal-wrap-wedding-cover-up-wedding

That is a beautiful dress. Have you considered a stole or faux fur wrap? I wore a vintage stole I found on Etsy and gave my bridal party faux fur wraps.

Thank you, everyone. What about wearing something like either one of these and then adding an aurora borealis string necklace along with a bird nest veil? I’m guessing that the beading on my dress will match the grey in either of those boleros/shrugs.

Honestly they all look too busy for your dress. Your dress has so much detail that I think they would clash with it. I would opt for a more simple fabric that compliments your dress.

PS I also went with a bolero because I am body shy as well. After a drink or two at the reception I took it off but I felt so much more comfortable during the ceremony with it on. Mine was a simple satin that was the same color as the dress

Thank you. What about the feather shrug and bolero I posted just above your comment? Also, I love your shoes. Where did you get them?

Have you thought about doing shoulder jewelry instead? This would cover up the top of the arms but add to instead of overwhelm the dress?

Thank you. I have looked into that option and it is beautiful, but I’d be worried about it moving around. How do people stop those from moving all over the place? I was hoping to also wear an aurora borealis strand necklace. It’s also possible that I may end up holding our baby at some point during the whole thing, so he’s probably be grabbing at it. Lol

This is the exact dress my MOH loved and wanted me to get! You look beautiful! I like these two better than the ones above personally, and would opt for the lighter color myself. Did you ask about adding lace cap sleeves? We did when I tried it on and they said they could easily use pieces from hemming, but I don’t have any pictures or I’d share 🙁. I’ll ask my MOH if she saved any!
