Which of these 3 resorts are best for honeymoon?

Missy, on February 18, 2015 at 10:35 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 13

Royal Playa Del Carmen

Excellence Playa Mujeres

Valentin Imperial Maya

We want pretty beaches and some sort of night life in case we want to go out one or two nights. All of these look nice but I would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has visited. Thanks!

We've been to the Beloved Playa Mujeres a couple times. It's the sister resort to Excellence but allows kids. The last time we went was December 2013. The food was pretty good and we loved the fact that even though it was all inclusive, it was mostly a la carte meals. It's a very quiet resort and we never felt we had to get up early in the morning to get a lounge chair or anything like that. I would also say that most people that went to the Beloved with kids only had 1 child and that's probably because the rooms are set up more for couples (transparent shower/bathroom doors, 1 king bed with a pull out in most suites, no connecting rooms, etc). This is the sister resort so I'm assuming the adults-only will be similar but just without kids and the kids club. Hope that helps!

Thanks so much! Did you feel like you had plenty to do? Is it close to excursions options and night life?

No, it's pretty secluded and far from the strip where things are happening. You can go on excursions and the concierge is great at organizing things for you but certainly not a great place to be if you're looking for nightlife.

We are going with excellence play mujeres (adult only) because we want it to be quiet and secluded. We are planning an excursion club crawl for one night. It's pretty darn cheap! Only $89 each and you hit 5 nightclubs with VIP entrance and includes all booze. And you get a guide to lead you, of course!

We almost went with sun palace resort instead. They're right in the strip, much closer to everything. And you could go to their sister resorts if you'd like to check them out. There are 4 of them in the strip, I think. Sun palace reviews are awesome!! Huge hot tub in room. Great resort!

I have a friend stay at the excellence Playa Mujeres, he really liked it. Not to throw in another option, but where we are going is Secret Playa Mujeres. It just opened in November, so it is brand new. Adults only. We got a great price since we booked before they were open. Not sure the rate and such now, but I liked the extra perks you got. I don't think you'll really go wrong with either. We were going to stay at the Excellence, but with the price we got at Secrets it was foolish to not go with the brand new resort.

Amanda that sounds great to have the option of the excursion club crawl! Where did you find that?

Missy- I believe you can find some excursions on Excellence Playa Mujeres's website. We booked through Liberty Travel and were given access to some of the tours through them. We didn't do the club crawl excursion, but I do remember it as an option at the trip desk at the resort.

Missy, I just googled it and found an excursion, sent it to my fh, who then brought it up w our travel agent. She looked into it and found out it was doable with out issues. We will just have to either cab it or arrange for a driver to meet up with the group. I never checked out the excellence website for it.

We are very tempted to book the playa terrace for our honeymoon. Look it up on YouTube! The room is exactly the same but there are stairs to a roof top terrace with a fountained jetted pool, bed, and breakfast nook. We are stoked to be able to sleep under the stars!!!

Your 3rd option was one of our top 3 choices but it was knocked out because of price. Our travel agent was trying to sell us on it but I didn't want to stay in a room with a tree view. I live in farm country so I see enough trees. Your 2nd option was our second as well but we felt more compelled to go with Secret Capri Rivera-more of a pricing thing and what we would be able to get. I think they are all in the same area so I figure we will have the same experience.

Hello Missy, Congrats on your engagement. My name is Kelly and I am owner and travel expert of Travel by Kelly. I know that it can be a bit overwhelming deciding on a honeymoon and I completely understand. All three of these resorts are amazing and the new Secrets Playa Mujeres as well. One of my most popular for budget purposes has been the Valentin Imperial Maya. I have clients go to that resort all the time and love it! the others are a bit more pricey but also take the luxury up a notch in my opinion. If your looking to go out a few nights, the Playa Mujeres area is closer to Cancun and nightlife. Where the Valentin is located there is not much nightlife around like the other 2 choices. There is always activities going on at the resort as well and since it's all inclusive some people enjoy partying right at the resort. When staying in the Playa Mujeres area a really fun day trip is to take the ferry over to Isla Mujures for the day. You rent a golf cart and run all over the island. the Royal is a very nice resort with a sophisticated feel and fabulous dining if your a foodie. It is not far from the Playa Del Carmen area where this shopping and nightlife as well, Coco Bongo is quite the place!

It's always important to me to find out more about my clients, what they like to do, are you looking for the absolute best beach, are you wanting to do adventure tours, what you both want from your honeymoon and fit the right resort to your personalities. Of course keeping within your comfortable budget so your happy with your decision. There should be no reason you can't find that perfect match. I'm always happy to answer questions, make suggestions and help with pricing, by all means feel free to reach out to me anytime and, check out my storefront here on wedding wire. Good luck with all your wedding planning. and have fun.

    Love more....Dream more.....Travel more......Kelly
