Which material is the most expensive?

Future Mrs.Randolph, on February 18, 2021 at 1:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4

I might be getting my dress custom made and the shop I am working with says what makes a dress expensive or cheap is the material used on the dress.

What material is the most expensive to put on a bridal gown?

What about beading or lace applique?

Curious to see the responses.

Ask the shop for a price list so you can compare the different types of material and embellishments.

Silk is very expensive. Satin is very cheap. There is a wide range of fabrics in between. Special occasion fabrics are expensive in general because they are delicate and if they make a mistake in the construction then they have to start all over with new fabric.

Beading is expensive because they are individually applied by hand. Lace applique is pretty quick with a sewing machine.

A wedding dress will be expensive no matter what. There's a multi billion dollar industry leading people to believe that they must pay expensive prices or it will be a complete disaster and everyone will disown you. Most women blindly accept and pay the high prices so it goes unchecked and prices increase every year.

Fabric has their own brands too. And the more details there is, the more expensive it gets. Simple dress cost less.

I agree with Michelle 100%. I’m a seamstress and special occasion fabrics are typically expensive in general. If you go on Etsy, you can browse to see that quality beaded lace/bridal material ranges from $120-$200 per yard. Depending on how many yards of fabric you need and the style of the dress, you would likely spend a few hundred on fabric alone. Then considering things like lining, hand beading, inserts, etc. it can quickly add up. Typically the labor cost is more, depending on the intricacy of the dress and how detailed it is. My suggestion would be to do your research and browse around for costs of fabric or similar dresses. Just keep in mind that custom will likely be a more because it’s made just for you and there is a long process that goes along with custom work. Hope this helps. Good luck!
