Which is better: Men's Warehouse or Friar Tux

Gettingmarriedin2016, on March 22, 2016 at 1:37 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

My FH and his groomsmen are going to start looking at suits. In your opinion, which store is better? Which store has better quality suits? Also where did your guys purchase their shoes at?

I've never heard of Friar Tux, but I personally would never do business with Mens Wearhouse because they left a bad taste in my mouth at a bridal show last year. The salesman literally shoved my best friend aside in order to get to me because she was not the bride-to-be.

My FH has ordered his tuxes through a local tailor who is affiliated with Jim's Formalwear. He got a good price and his out-of-town groomsman was able to get measured by someone local.

We are not doing tuxes or vests. FH decided it would be too hot, so just doing suspenders over the shirts. My challenge has been finding matching pants for a 9, 12, and 2 40-something guys. MW said they could just rent pants for $35/each. I have never heard of Friar Tux, but MW seems like they can meet my needs pretty inexpensively.

We just went suit shopping at Mens Warehouse. Also looked at Macy's, JCPenney, etc. What surprised me was that the sales at MW were not universal - some in the area would have a particular suit on sale and some wouldn't. The prices were reasonable for what they were. We ended up purchasing a suit from Banana Republic on sale that cost less than a lower quality suit at MW, so keep in mind there are other options out there if you don't want a tux.

Friar Tux. They are awesome and have a bunch of locations your wedding party can get measured pick up and drop everything back off to their preferred location, or multiple locations. I HATED our experience with Men's Warehouse, but Friar Tux was a COMPLETE 180. Will never go anywhere else if we don't have to for anything.

Lol @celia I thought they had locations all over the country. I guess they're only in California

Friar Tux! We have never had a problem with them. FH rented a tux from them before (for a charity event), so when it came time to decide a place to rent the tuxes from we're like "Eh, why not?" So FH and his guys went to the one in West Covina this past Sunday, and everything went really well.

We went to Men's Warehouse yesterday just to look/get a price, and I'm still torn. They don't rent out suits in navy blue, which is what we want, so we'd have to rent tuxes which will cost over $200- not terrible, but I do feel bad asking our GMs who are still in grad school/undergrad to pay that much to rent- the girl's dresses were only $120, so the tuxes would be $100+ more! We found a few local places that will rent out the suits for much cheaper ($140-160), but when Men's Warehouse called me to follow up and I told them the situation they offered to price match even though we were looking at suits elsewhere.

I think it's probably a location by location situation. Some might be better than others. It might be helpful to look at reviews for your area's particular store? I like the accessibility of Men's Warehouse, and the fact that they have the same colors as David's Bridal so I know the ties will match girls dresses.
