I'm just curious to see if people had a specific reason why they chose a certain style

We’re doing seated/plated meals. I’m not a fan of buffets at weddings. Once our guests sit down for dinner, I don’t want them having to line-up, file through a buffet table and walk around with their plates, etc. I want them to relax and be catered to like a normal sit down dinner at a nice restaurant.

That's great! Especially since weddings can be VERY expensive

We were doing buffet but the venue made the call because of COVID to not have buffets at all and do strictly seated/plated for no extra cost. We get to choose from a wider variety as well because we still get the buffet options (what wr paid for) and the regualr seated options.

    Right. Especially the catering portion.

Well that's good, I have a feeling that many venues will start giving that option since Covid will probably be around for a little while.

We are doing a seated dinner. This was my one non-negotiable (well, that and an open bar). Personally, I absolutely detest standing in line for a buffet at weddings. I have just always felt it cheapens the vibe. I also don’t like eating food that other people have been standing over, breathing on, touching, etc. Plus, the food has always been soooo much better at the weddings I’ve been to who have had plated meals. Since we are having a destination wedding, which is requiring our guests to travel, it is super important for us to provide them with an exceptional experience. That being said, I know buffets are a much more cost effective meal option and a lot of people choose to have them at their weddings. It should be whatever the couple feels is best for them! Our buffet actually wasn't more cost effective, it just gave us more options foodwise. It was more expensive then a few of the plated dinner packages but we wanted more than 2 entrees. I believe the package we chose comes with 3-4 different entrees, 2 sides, 1 pasta and dessert. So for us we are definitely paying more BUT we are also getting more. But like you said its whatever the couple feels best!

We are doing buffet style BBQ. I knew from the start I wanted to do buffet style because I personally think it's way better. You get more food, you don't have to ask 100 people if they want this or that and there's no mistakes in what you're guests ordered. I've been to a couple of weddings where they had dinner served to us and we had to pick what we wanted when we sent in the rsvps and when we got to the wedding they gave us the wrong food because the bride put in the wrong food.

I wanted a plated dinner, but my fiancé wanted a buffet. Since the buffet also gives us more food options for everyone for a cheaper price, we went that route.

We did buffet because it was cheaper, but also offered more food for the money. Since we knew we had a variety of dietary issues, a buffet gave us a broad range of food choices.

However, our buffet had servers at each station, so it would likely still be considered safe in this climate.

Family style because it fit our pirate reception theme.

I chose buffet because I always like to try a little bit of everything. I also always feel like when I’m choosing meals at weddings the protein I want comes with a side I don’t and vice versa !
