Which Color? Ivory or Nude, Help!

J, on January 7, 2019 at 11:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 13
Piggybacking off another discussion, I’m having major anxiety deciding on my dress color. Either all Ivory, or Ivory with a nude underlay. Note that I am not wearing the ivory dress seen in photos. In the last photo, the bridal attendant did place ivory fabric to help me visualize. But I can’t say it really helped.

I feel a little washed out in all Ivory, (wedding will be late September) but I love how bridal, traditonal, and classic it is. It also would make my Mother happier. I will feel like one regardless 😊, but I want to look like a beautiful bride too!

I loved the nude underlay right away when I saw it on a mannequin, and then tried it on. I still loved it. But when I looked back in my cell photos, I didn’t love how the front photographed. Maybe it was the lighting in the particular area, which I have to take in consideration.. not all areas will be well lit on our wedding day. However, I love how the back/train photographed. I love that the nude is unique and helps the detail to pop. But is it too “trendy” and will it become dated fast.

Help! I feel like I am so torn right in the middle and will second guess whichever I choose.

Ivory or Nude?!

Thank you!

I think the nude is beautiful and it sounds like it’s the one you really want. You will look gorgeous in either color.

I think that no matter what you pick chances are good it’ll seem out of fashion in 20 years. Go with what you like now. And I personally love old pieces of clothing that are clearly from another time, like a shirt that takes me back to high school. There’s something about having something that is a piece of fashion history.

I nude is beautiful! It looks amazing on the mannequin (so) and the details show up so we’ll.
But I think it looks less bridal as you mentioned. I also agree about the picture from front, which looks like it could be a lighting issue.
It will probably look dated (years from now), but most styles will.
I personally would go with the ivory but mostly becaus I wanted that all white(ivory) bride look.
Go with what will make you happy, not your mom. I didn’t pick the dress my mom wanted me to and she was upset about it. And That still makes me doubt the choice I made. But, while it was a beautiful dress and i tried it on again, i knew it wasn’t it.
My Mom got over and LOVES my dress now that it fits me properly. Yours will too

Thank you for your comments Malki.

I honestly don’t know what I want. I love aspects of both now which is why I’m having such a hard time deciding.

I like your perspective about fashion pieces and looking back. I want to love it when I look back. A thought I have is maybe with an all Ivory dress there’s more possibility of passing on to a future daughter, even if she only uses pieces and cuts it up. I know by then there’s less chance with advancements in color and material, but I have seen girls do amazing things with their mothers all satin, poofy sleeved wedding gowns from the early eighties! But like those dresses, I also don’t want to look back and think what was that?! Haha

I’m sure whatever I choose it will still work out beautifully either way. I just have to decide. I only wish I knew how!

Either color makes me happy in different ways, but also whatever dress I choose I will think.. did I make the right/best choice for me?

In regards to my Mom, she actually thinks I went with the nude underlay. She said she just wants me happy, and that although she wasn’t “thrilled” with the color, she understands she might be old fashioned and can get over it. She still thinks I looked beautiful in it, and she’s so excited and happy I found something I like.

After I initially chose the dress, I had an afterthought that maybe I could surprise her by going with the Ivory. That it would be a nice surprise.

    Im driving myself crazy lol.

Being able to pass it on to your daughter is a good point! My mom didn’t have a wedding dress and I wish she did ❤️

Im considering a nude dress too so I’m a little biased in that direction 😘

Honestly, I feel like the nude look is more modern. That ivory does look pretty stark and if it washes you out, stick with the nude since you clearly love it. 😃 The intricate details seem to stand out more in the nude too. Lovely!

J, both look gorgeous!! But I think I'm going to have to vote for the nude! I love how it makes the details pop on the dress! It all comes down to how you feel in it, I know it's easy to let others influence you!! Either one you choose you'll look amazing!!

I'm biased because I chose an ivory dress with a moscato underlay, but I love the nude underlay on you. You still look very bridal! I made it pretty clear that I didn't want an all white dress just because I didn't think it was that flattering on me. Your mother will think you are the most beautiful bride to have ever lived, regardless of the dress you end up with.

I wouldn't base your choice on having a dress to pass on. There are so many variables there (having a daughter, having a daughter that gets married, having a daughter that gets married and wears a dress, having a daughter that would be interested in your dress). I say this as someone who used elements of my moms/grandmothers dress on my wedding day. My grandmother had a dress that she passed on to my mom who then passed it on to me. I didn't wear the dress but used the lace to embellish a clutch.

Make your choice based on what you feel most comfortable in and you like best. I personally like how the nude makes the detail in the lace pop. Then again I may be biased because I chose a dress with a champagne lining to help the lace pop on my dress. While it may look dated later almost all dresses look dated after enough time. For all we know in a few years ivory will be dated and wedding dresses will sway more to different colors.

First: you look amazing in both. I personally prefer ivory but I think that you should go with the nude because it seems like what you want the most. The wedding isn't about looking good for everyone else and you should be comfortable in your own dress!

I like the white look better in this case. Maybe if the lining were halfway between the white and the beige it would be an okay balance. There are a variety of layer colors too, including champagne. Also, if it is outdoors in bright sunlight, it may be better to have an offwhite.
