Hello all we have to postpone our wedding date to may 15 2021. Due to Covid and my dress being late shipped to me and other Covid related situations. Our original date was July 11, 2020. We informed his family as well as mine and HIS family just blew us off about it (the original date). They all said they cannot come because of getting time off jobs and money issues.

We announced our engagement on Facebook on June 29, 2019 his family never responded or congratulated us at all.

We understood because we are getting married in a different state but in a way I was upset because BOTH of my parents are deceased and his dad is deceased he mostly only has his MOTHER, but he wasn't upset at their response which was "NONE" he stated that's how his family is. My FH doesn't deal with his family at all most of his life and now still. I used to try to get him to involve them but he says they are toxic and he would rather NOT deal with them at all.

Well tonight his MOTHER calls and talks to him she is asking about when, where are we getting married and he tells her we postponed because of COVID. We postponed 2 months ago we never told them because he didnt want them involved. She starts telling him how she hasn't heard from him in a while, also hinting that he didn't call for mother's day. She then ask how about the wedding and she says "OH i know the day is coming up how are you guys doing"? So he tells her we postponed it until May 15 2021 so she says "Oh since that's the case she will save up to come". She then mentions how other family members also want to come. He tells her "I thought you guys weren't interested in coming at all".
She says that not the case at all. She states "Oh I would not miss that i would not miss it and she would regret not making it". So he told her he would have to talk to me about it she says ok. So now I am wondering should I do this or is this crap that she and the rest of his family is trying to impose?

Also, family relationships are more complicated than just one day, and yes, I have attended a wedding where I didn’t necessarily like both people getting married. I also will have people at mine who don’t like me. I plan to simply not spend time with them beyond the requirement of saying hello because I’ll have plenty of other people to interact with. They are being invited because they’re either family members or in relationships with people who are important to us. They still get invited.

You asked for our input, didn’t you? Were you looking for PP to agree with you rather than give their honest opinions?

First off if my parents does NOT accept who I am with they will not be invited.

My parents has to understand this is MY life and MY celebration who I choose to marry. We will NOT have anyone who will not celebrate and accept that . The end

I have a cousin who has a issue and guess what they are not invited. His family is no exception to the rule. I personally believe as a "BRIDE" I have a right in this decision just as much as my FH. What people dont understand is WHATEVER happens whether they show or not I "The bride" has to deal with his feelings after its all said and done.

We are christian and in the bible it states "A man will LEAVE his family and join his wife and the two will become one". It's says that for a reason.

Nope not mad at all I am just saying as the "Bride" I would not want to look at someone on my most important day of my life, take pictures with , mingle , feed, and entertain when I KNOW they can't stand me. If everyone here has money to throw away like that kudos to you. Now some people can put on a mask and pretend unfortunately I'm not one of them. If that makes sense and yes it is HIS choice. However if they dont show it is I that gets to hear how hurt he will be. If they do show i can't see my self enjoying my day.

Wow how do you go to a wedding where you basically didnt care for both parties. I mean you are eating , mingling, and attending someone celebration that you dont like. Just curious did you get them a gift. I dont know if I can work that like that. I would just not invite people like plus it cheaper on the pocket LOL just kidding. I mean as a bride I would expected to mingle with my guests, take pictures, and feed my guests

Yes i ask for everyone's input with me being "THE BRIDE" considered. As a result I have them

now i should ask how many people would invite me to their wedding I dont need to know them or like them . I will just play along for the free meal and entertainment with a smile.

Its no hard feelings but what alot of people on here DONT UNDERSTAND is if his family (who are important) DONT show its ME that will hear about this and I would have to support him. I love him and I most definitely will support him in every way. As a FW I will not set us up for disappointment. Our job is to enjoy our BIG day REGARDLESS. I dont want to put gas on the fire. If you look at my original post they Never was in his life. While some family does come around and forget the past it doesn't happen overnight. I dont know anyone who has family that will change overnight like that for just one day. Only 1 person on here actually understood what i was saying(Jana) and yet they did not side with me but they understood me.

I liked one of the people getting married, not the spouse. I was there to support that one person because it was important. In another case, I wasn’t a fan of either one but my significant other was, so I went with him because it was important to him. Yes, of course I got them gifts. I think it’s important to be there for those we care about even if we might not like everyone else present.

Of course brides have to mingle, but you don’t have to spend too much time with any single person. You can briefly say hello and then move on if you don’t like the person and spend time with everyone else. Normally, you don’t invite people you don’t know or like, but there are exceptions. In laws are part of that. You invite them because it’s important to your future spouse. It’s hard when it’s family. My FH’s sister and I do not like each other. She will be there at our wedding because she’s his sister, and that’s okay. I don’t plan on spending a ton of time with her. I doubt she’ll say more than two words to me, but it’s certainly not going to ruin my day. Not inviting her was never, ever even considered. In fact, she’ll be at the rehearsal dinner as well (especially since his family is traveling from out of town).
