Where to get cheap rose petals for FG

dragonfly726, on September 21, 2011 at 1:00 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12

All along, I had planned to have my 3 FGs toss fall leaves instead of rose petals, and I even preserved some last fall. Looking through my stuff, I really don't think I have enough leaves for 3 FGs. I want to add rose petals to the leaves, but I can't afford what my florist charges for them. They have to be real petals (not silk) because our ceremony will be outside.

Any ideas? TIA

Try ebay. Search for freeze dried rose petals.

Okay, I'll look, do you think I could have them in 10 days though? I don't have much time

Depends on the seller. You can always contact them and ask if they can send them to you priority.

Otherwise...do you have anyone who sells cheap roses? In the grocery store, roadside, etc.? Of course, this means someone would have to remove the petals, but a few $10 bunches might do the trick.

@J&R S. I was thinking about grabbing some from Walmart or Sams, but I have no idea how many I'll need for 3 FGs. I really don't want to spend over $20, as we're already over budget.

Can't you go to the grocery store and buy a dozen red roses? I think our local grocery store sells them for $10 a dozen. Rip the petals off and let them dry on their own...they'll for sure be dried in 10 days.

EDIT ... didn't read J&R response. I'm sure 2 dozen rose petals will be just fine for 3 brides. I'd say 2 hand fulls per basket would work. They have smaller hands and most of the time flower girls are worried about all the eyes on them they sometimes forget to toss the petals from the basket.

Try contacting local florists in the area and ask them if you can have left-over petals from their recent designs. Most of them will agree and it should cost you little to nothing. If that doesn't work here's a few other suggestions:

    1. Buy roses from either a grocery store or store such as Sam's Club. (two dozen roses will cost you approx $20 around here) and pluck the petals yourself.

    2. Buy petals from a wholesale floral company such as www.fiftyflowers.com. Pricing starts at I believe around $140 for 6,000 rose petals (plenty to add some to your reception decor) and includes free shipping.

    Hope this helps!

Looks like ebay has a lot for $16.99, free shipping for rose petals mixed with other stuff, $3.99 shipping for the others. Fits your budget perfectly! Just contact the seller of the ones you want and ask them how quickly they can get them in the mail to you, and whether they will ship priority (and if not, would they please). May add an extra few $, but...they're useless to you the day after.

I have seen them at the dollar store/tree. It would be the way I would go what spend $16.99 or higher when you can spend a $1 or so.

I live in Florida and there is a large grocery chain store here (Publix) and the one near my house has a great florist. When the roses start to look wilty, she pulls off the petals and puts them in little ziplock sandwich bags AND..she gives them to whoever wants them for free! I think that's super nice but you have to ask ahead of time so someone else doesn't get your petals. I don't know if ALL Publix grocery stores do this but they are really accommodating about everything else, so ask before you buy! Even if you live where there is no Publix, I would ask at any grocery store because they (the store florist) has no reason to be stingy, they don't make any money from the sale of the flowers anyway...the "unsuitable petals just get tossed.

1 sandwich size bag for each FG is the perfect amount.

    Good luck!
