Where do women put their purses???

Ashley, on December 19, 2015 at 5:38 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

Hi all,

We are having our wedding at a venue that doesn't do a sit down dinner. People go to different booths to get their food so it's more of a "grazing" dinner while people dance. I know in the south and midwest it's common not to have assigned tables but in the north it's pretty much the norm. My mom is worried women won't relax and dance because they won't feel comfortable putting their purse at a random table. It's a 200-250 person wedding and there's security at the door so random people don't come in (it's in the heart of Philly at a market that's open to the public during the day). Any creative ways to solve this problem without doing assigned tables?

I think this will be like any other dinner/dance event. You leave your purse with a friend, take it with you on the floor, or drop it off at a table within eyesight. I have never let a table assignment prevent me from keeping up with my belongings.

I agree that I don't think it's that big of a deal. Though you are kind for thinking about it! Most women change into smaller purses for weddings. So it's not weird to carry it. But this is also family, so they wouldn't hesitate in leaving their belongings at an unassigned table. I imagine there will be tables of some sort.

I agree with OKD, table assignment or not I'd keep track of my stuff. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

    PS- I'm in Philly too!

Many women bring a clutch or wristlet to a wedding so its not in the way. Same as a bar!

I always bring a clutch to weddings/parties and keep it with me the whole night.

Are there not enough seats for everyone?

I always just bring a purse small enough to dance while wearing or let it go and hope no one will steal at a friends wedding.

Also, I live in the midwest and I hardly ever see weddings with no seating chart. I would highly advise people to have one assuming they are having a sit down meal. Definitely not a midwest thing to not have a seating chart. Perhaps there are certain specific places within the midwest that skip them but as a whole I would say they are very prevalent.

This is legit the LAST thing you need to be worried about. Ladies will figure out their purse situation on their own.

Wow I'm also commenting to ask if you're getting married at the Reading market. That's SO cool.

I think I would be more stressed about not having an assigned seat than my purse (which would be a small clutch). I'm from the north (Chicagoland) and assigned seats are the norm here. But I agree most women will have something small or leave it with a friend.

A seat for every person is recommended. Grown women should be responsible for their own belongings.

I always leave my purse/clutch on my chair or under the table. The tablecloth is usually long enough to hide it.
