Where are you staying on your wedding night?

FH and I were planning to come back to our house, which is about 20 min away from his parents house, where they will be hosting the after party. We leave for our honeymoon the next day, so I liked the idea of being able to go back home and not worry about getting our bags and my dress from the hotel. FH thinks it would be pointless to get a hotel in the same area that we live in when we could just go back to our own home. Other people have been telling me that we should go to a nice hotel to make our wedding night more romantic and special. I was told 'you have your whole life to go home, go somewhere special on your wedding night'.

What are your thoughts? Where are you staying on your wedding night?

We are coming home. We purposely picked a venue that is 10 minutes from our house

Our venue gives us a complimentary stay the night of the wedding. We'll stay at the resort for the weekend.

We are staying in a hotel less than a mile from our house/venue. We could save money by not using the hotel but I want it to be special and relaxing.

The reception is at a nice hotel and one of the perks is a free presidential suite on the wedding night, plus a huge discount for the next night if we get a certain number of rooms booked through the room block.

We are staying at a hotel because it is closer to venue because we might be a little tipsy

My venue has small cottages on site. We get one for free just by booking the wedding and then the others are pretty inexpensive. So my FH and I will likely be spending the night in one of the cottages and then my parents will be dog sitting. I think you get a hotel! It's such a drop in the bucket cost-wise and I think it adds to the excitement of the day.

We are going back home but that is because all of the hotels in the area are booked.

Our church is about an hour away from home so our plan is to grab a pizza, go to our apartment, and watch Netflix.

We had to be at the airport which was 2 hours away by 8 am the next morning. So we had a car service transport us to a hotel that was connected to the airport.

I would go home since you have the honeymoon the next day and will probably want to drop off/pick up things. If not, then you can stay at the hotel you're guests are but if everyone is local and not staying over I don't see why you would in this case

If I had a chance to go to my house I would

You may be really tired and just end up going to sleep

Plus no worry that you have to rush out and check out

We are staying at a hotel/resort that night that's only 5-10 minutes from the venue. We live about 45 minutes away from the venue and going back there would be exhausting and not special at all. We have kids so there's like toys and dog toys and kid things lol... I don't want to see any of that until the next day! We're not actually leaving for our honeymoon for about 3 days so we'll have plenty of time at home before we leave as well.

We're just going to the NC Outer Banks for our honeymoon, and we're having a brunch wedding, so we'll actually be able to drive straight to the beach house for our wedding night.
