Where are all the matted albums??

Elizabeth, on February 5, 2020 at 11:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

So during my search for a photographer, I've noticed that many photographers offer albums in their packages. Which is great except they are all those flush mount books. I personally don't like the style of them. Probably because I grew up adoring my parents album! SO I thought to myself, that's fine, I'll just do a cheaper package that doesn't include an album and I'll get a matted album myself. WRONG!! You can't make a matted album yourself. All the sites for the matted albums require a professional photographer to make them. So, am I supposed to just find a photographer who offers matted albums?? If so, how the heck do I do that? So frustrating!

I don’t see many photographers in my area that offer albums. They give you the rights to print your own,

Yes almost every photographer does that now. It's just a matter of getting my photos into a matted album.

Hey Elizabeth. I would suggest searching for a photographer like normal (one who offers albums) and in your initial email, ask if they can do matted albums. I’m not sure if the process for them to create a flush mount album and matted is very different, I would imagine they may be able to do either on request. Have you asked any photographers this yet?

Just want to let you know that you may not be able to find a photographer that will do a matted album. When we were talking with our photographer she told us that she doesn't do matted albums because are actually really hard on your pictures and will cause the album to fall apart quicker and the photos to yellow faster. In a scrapbooking group I'm in I can confirm this is happening as people ask questions about how to preserve their wedding albums as the album is slowly falling apart. It's also happened to my FMIL as well and now all of the matted pages are loose.

I would ask photographers if they will offer a matted album when you reach out initially.

I have and most don’t offer it though a couple have offered to look into it. However, I finally found a company who does it. So basically I can use any photographer as long as they give me printing rights.

Aww. That makes me sad! My parents album is still in excellent condition. I’m sure it probably matters how it is stored.

Oh yes, I'm sure storage matters a lot. And quality of the paper. My recommendation with doing the matted album would be to make sure the paper touching the pictures is acid free and/or lignin free and to avoid storing it in sunlight.

That's great you found someone who would make the matted album for you!

Hi - I know it has been a while, but I am looking for what sounds to be similar and having a hard time finding it. If you remember, do you know which company you found?

Most photographers have other options and resources that are not advertised because they aren't what the masses want but that doesn't mean they aren't available. Ask the photographers you are interested in if they can provide that as an option.
