How did you handle family members saying that won't attend? I can handle the last minute work excuses or no money for plane ticket, but has anyone ever dealt with family or even friends declining to show up because they will be "moving to a new place" or even just "traveling the world?" This the...
How did you handle family members saying that won't attend? I can handle the last minute work excuses or no money for plane ticket, but has anyone ever dealt with family or even friends declining to show up because they will be "moving to a new place" or even just "traveling the world?" This the most wildest thing I ever heard of. I would never deny someone to live their life because I know that it's not my place, but like I am first cousins with this person and they knew for three years now that I would be getting married. I mean at one point she was in my wedding party lol. Has anyone ever gone through this?

It’s a family relationship problem lol she’s my cousin. I offended her with something that had nothing to do with her…? Whether or not she comes I will see where she stands in my life and it won’t affect my happiness on my big day because I have lost people before our wedding day as has my FH that we wish was there most so I’m not letting it affect me it’s just rude to me and upsetting when I always support her I’m there and she has never truly done the same for me, but I’m learning slowly that it shouldn’t matter.

Well sure, but I'm glad it won't affect your happiness.

Same thing here. It’s hard for all of us covid couples but exactly like you said, the people that do come will make it that much more special. 💜

It depends on the reason why they are not attending. Personally me and my husband eloped because my family was against interracial marriage and some of his family was the same way. It didn't matter we eloped May 15 2021 and it was amazing. Also saved us alot of money!!! Bigger guest list more money spent. We are not having a reception we are having a Huge honeymoon and purchasing a home with our funds. Good luck!!

Yea her reasoning consisted of traveling and moving into a new place. These past few days since I posted I’ve gotten over it. I can’t keep letting people in who don’t deserve it. Congratulations on your marriage and we have a budget we’ve stood by and a lot of DIY.

Oh wow sorry I totally missed your point on that "moving into a new place and traveling". I see you made up your mind and that's what matters in the end.

I'm with you! I'm a widow and my family and friends have been waiting for me to find someone for ages. I'm finally getting married now, 9 years later, after canceling twice due to Covid. Every excuse from "it's too complicated juggling our kids" to "Covid has me too anxious" (we have a 100% vaccination record among our guests over age 12) to "I can't make it" (this one from a doctor who is VERY Covid anxious but just spent a week in Myrtle Beach doing lots of shopping) to "my daughter is pregnant" (and due in 6 months, by the way) to "my mom MIGHT have surgery".

Whatever. Don't come. It's sad and painful, but I can't waste my time on it. I'm so stressed about getting shut down again and I'm not rescheduling this thing a 4th time. Whoever shows up, it's going to be a hell of a party. We can't get our money back from our venue, so all the extra money we put down as a deposit is going towards an open bar and a real swanky dinner.

They may think they are sparing your feelings by saying they have a trip but really there is something else going on they aren’t comfortable sharing. Or maybe they just have something that is more important to them than your wedding. Don’t let it ruin your special day. The people who want to celebrate you will be there. Every single person who shows up will be there to celebrate your new adventure.
    Focus on that!

I had someone tell me they wouldnt attend because of my no denim dress code and I simply said ok, and when I found out that they planned a trip for that day and for sure wont be there, I said that's fine it's less stress on me.
If they dont want to be there to help you celebrate your big day, dont sweat it. As long as you remember those who truly care will be there, that's all that matters!
