When to take the veil off

Lacy, on March 9, 2018 at 11:29 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23
I was intending to wear my veil for the entirety of the reception, but it's come to my attention that it's generally taken off after the ceremony. I can't remember what any of the brides did at weddings I've been to. The internet and old WW posts are divided between "do what you want" and "it's weird to keep it on."

What are y'all planning to do? I have a fingertip veil but I've read that the veil can become a nuisance as the night progresses. My veil is just so pretty and looks amazing with my dress.

Any advice on practicalities and etiquette?

If it's a fingertip veil you COULD wear it all night if you wanted to. I think most people take it off for the reception because a) they're going to be receiving so many hugs and don't want to damage it, b) they want to dance and not have it in the way, or c) change their look up a bit for the evening.

Ultimately, it's your wedding - you do you honey!

If it helps at all, I have seen some brides keep the veil on for the first dance/father daughter dance, then take it off subtly afterwards, if you wanted more photos of you in it.

I plan on taking mine off for the reception. I'm wearing a fingertip veil as well, but I plan on changing my hairstyle slightly for the reception. My FH likes my hair down, but I wanted it up for pictures and the ceremony so its out of the way. I will transition to a half up/half down style after the ceremony so I won't wear it after at the reception. Plus the back of my dress is an illusion back with buttons all down it so I want to show it off. I feel like you can do what ever you are comfortable with. And if you wear it at the beginning and its annoying you can always just take it off for the rest of it.

I’m taking mine off before the reception. I’m putting a comb or headband or headpiece on for the ceremony.

I'm wearing a cathedral length veil and won't take it off until the photographer gets his shots of us alone; while at guests are at our brunch reception.

I had a fingertip veil and I wore it for the whole night, all the way to the after party. I looooved the look of it with my dress and figured it’s the only time I can wear a veil all night. The last wedding, I went to the bride was wearing a fingertip veil and she also kept hers on.

I was considering wearing it into the reception and the first dance . I will then be taking it off. Figure I would get some good pictures dancing with it on and off if this is the case .

I'll have a fingertip veil but my mother and I are making it with the lace from my grandmother's dress. After the dances, my mother will pack it away so the 60 year old lace isn't damaged by hugging and such and it can be passed down to my future daughters and my little cousin who has been eyeing it for her wedding (she's 16, plenty of time lol)

I love my veil but it is longer than my dress so I’ll have to take it off. I’m bummed about that because it has a beautiful pattern on the ends and I wish I could wear it longer!!

I’m wearing a fingertip veil and taking it off after the ceremony. We’re doing first look/family photos before the ceremony, so it’ll be on for those.

I took my veil off after we took some photos after the ceremony. It was chapel length and heavily beaded on the bottom, so it was heavy. I also didn't want to carry it the whole night since the floor was carpeting

I took my veil off after the ceremony because my HMUA was still there to help remove it and freshen up my hair once removed. I did a first look and most of my pictures before the ceremony with my veil and then afterwards changed my look slightly by wearing a vintage stole.

Hi, this is off topic but I love your shrug/shawl! I’m getting married in January and have been looking for one exactly that color! Is it a shrug? Do you mind me asking where you bought it and can I see a picture of the front? I don’t know if I should get an actual jacket, wrap or cape Smiley laugh

I plan on keeping it on. It's fingertip length and there is just something about wearing the veil that makes me feel more bridal.
