When to take engagement pictures?

We're doing ours in October and hopeful sending them out by mid-November.

We did ours in November '14 to use for our save the dates that we sent in January '15.

We are doing ours in October because we want to take advantage of the fall foliage. But we probably won't send out Save the Dates until January.

I think based on your June wedding, you should try to send out STDs around Christmas time (that will give your guests 6 months) or you could send them out in the fall if you want to give them even more time than that. I think fall engagement pics will be beautiful and will also give your FH time to get his skin cleared up so he looks his best! I also got my e-pics done in the fall so I'm slightly biased but they turned out great

I think STD work differently for different weddings (where the wedding is located, how much advance notice guests need, etc). For most weddings, I think its about a 6 month timeline to send them out, so pictures possibly 8 months out (so maybe around October)?

We personally had our pictures taken about a month (got engaged in April 2014 and pictures were taken in May 2014) and then sent out the STD in July 14 (yes, way in advance but it a DW for most of our guests - not for us though). What we did was found a photographer on Groupon for a mini-session (I think it was about $60 and then we gave a small tip) and used those as the STD pictures. Then with our chosen reception photographer we took more "e-pics" (June 2015) to get comfortable with her (also it was included in her photography package) before our February 2016 wedding - we will probably display some of these "e-pics" during our wedding at the reception.

I feel like with STD, you can send them out whenever you feel like it. We got engaged December 2013, but we didn't take our engagement pictures until fall 2014. Our photographer had the pictures back to us within a week, so we made our STD and sent them out ASAP. So it was like a year in advance. If you want to wait for your FH to get his skin cleared up, maybe August or September would be good? I'm not sure how long it will take for him to be comfortable!

We needed to send our SVTDs sooner than later, so we took some nice photos of ourselves and used one to order ours. But we will probably do our Engagement pics in August or September and use them as Christmas gifts for our parents or something. Also, it will be nice for us to have a nice picture together for the house

We just had ours taken because I wanted summer pictures outside.
