When to steam my dress?

Jenni, on August 8, 2016 at 12:04 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

Hey folks,

Did anyone travel with their dress and take it to be steamed right before the wedding? We are planning on being in Madison on Thursday and then the wedding is Saturday. Can we even get this done? Are there any other options? This thought literally did not occur to me until my alterations appointment where they pointed it out to me!

Where did you get your dress/have alterations done?

We are doing a DW in Florida, and since I got my dress and did alterations through David's bridal, I can take it to their Orlando store and have it steamed the day before for free!

I had my dress shipped to my parents house after it was altered because I was getting married in and moving to DH hometown after the wedding. I got it steammed at the David's Bridal in my parents hometown two days before the wedding so it would look feesher even though it still had to be transported to its final destination about two hours away the day before the wedding. I was able to hang it up at our ceremony venue when I got there and it still lookesd good the day of.

Also does anyone know if cleaners can steam a dress the day you take it in, or if it takes like a week.

It depends on the shop. I bought mine from David's Bridal and I was able to get mine done the same day. (I dropped mine off early afternoon and it was done by 4:30p)

Yeah, I read up on David's Bridal but they won't help me since I didn't get my dress through them. It's currently being altered by a local seamstress in Indiana. @bappybride, the places I called actually send the dress out to be pressed, and it takes WEEKS!

I'm thinking I will ship it to my parents so that they can get it pressed and they can store it spread out in the open until they make the 6 hour drive. Not a great solution, but all I can think of currently.

    Anyone else have suggestions?

I just got a job at David's, and I heard my manager tell a bride today that she needs to come in about 5 days before the wedding to get her dress steamed.

My seamstress steamed mine, then I steamed it again myself the morning of my wedding. Steamers aren't expensive

Following. I'm a bit worried about this too as I bought my dress at a boutique store and have a 4 hour drive to our DW 4 days ahead of our wedding.
