When to send save the dates?

Sara, on April 19, 2020 at 12:27 PM Posted in Planning 1 4

Hello! My FH and I are getting married on June 26, 2021. We've had this date, church, and venue booked since November 2019. My question is...when should we send save the dates? Most articles I've read have said 6-8 months, but I'm leaning toward 10 months, which would be August. A majority of our extended family and friends know that we are getting married next summer, but having an official save the date out makes it feel more official. The other issue to is that we originally had this May planned to do engagement pictures, but that may not happened depending when our state eases on the stay at home order. However, our engagement photographer is a family friend, so we're hoping to even do a few quick pictures soon to get something for the save the date.

Anyway, given all of this, does August sound appropriate to send the save the dates? For other June 2021 brides that haven't sent theres out yet, what is your plan? Thanks in advance!

We sent ours out about 10 months before our date. Ours was semi-destination (1/2 our guests drove 2 hours each and the other 1/2 flew 5+ hours each way) so we wanted to give them time to make travel arrangements.

I didn’t take my engagement photos until 3 months before my wedding, but I also didn’t use it for my save-the-dates.
Do you have a lot of out-of-town guests coming? If so, August/September should be fine. If not, I would even push it to around November. You don’t want to send them out too early and have people forget because they received it so long ago.

We sent ours a year in advance since we are having a destination wedding & all guests would be required to travel. We wanted to give ample time for them to save $$ for flights, etc. I would say 8-10 months ahead of time is plenty of notice if your wedding is local and/or doesn’t require a lot of travel of your guests Smiley smile

I say the earlier the better with Save the Dates! Most of our family and friends have all sent theirs out 10-12 months before the wedding date. It's never too soon to get on everyone's calendar!

However you also have plenty of time to get engagement photos taken safely and then used for your Save the Dates! Here's a helpful guide you can reference for your sending timeline:

We are getting married on March 27, 2021 and we are planning on getting ours out by the end of this week! I’m basically planned now it’s just the finishing touches. I like to be ahead of the game so I’m happy to be sending mine a little “early”!
