How soon is too soon to send out save the dates? Our guest list is pretty much finished and we’re ready to order the cards. Our wedding is next september

Save the Dates are typically sent about 8-10 months out. However, if it’s a destination wedding, a year out is typical.

I’d probably err more to sending them around the lower range. I’d personally send them right after the winter holidays so they don’t get mixed up with holiday cards and travel.

Also getting married this September, we sent ours at the end of January (ours is considered destination for over half the guests). We wanted to avoid sending too close to the holidays

I read 6-8 months is appropriate for save the dates if it is not a destination wedding. And then 6-8 weeks out from wedding date for invitations.

I'm actually getting married in January but because we decided to do pre martial counseling first, we will be sending our save the dates out in September. And then our invitations in November

Our wedding is next September too! I was thinking of sending ours out this November to double as an engagement announcement to friends and extended family that aren’t on social media. That is 10 months in advance, which is a little longer than some say to do it, but it is difficult to wait. Some of our family lives a ways away and have other obligations so I just want to be sure they get ample notice.

I’m with ya on that. I also am a believer in - do whatever you want. With all the changes in our lives the last two years weddings have also gone “off course” so people can have the wedding they want without having to follow all the rules. If you’re worried about people not being able to attend, or heck, just want to send them out - DO IT! Smiley smile nobody can be upset about being given more time to prepare.

    Hi Smiley smile
We’re getting married in February. It seems I’m a bit behind on this! If I get them ordered right away, do you think end of September is too late for Save the Dates to go out???

We are doing a destination wedding that is taking place in September 2023. We are sending out our save the dates next week (Week of September 5 2022). I think its important to let people know at least a year ahead of time that you are going somewhere and then give people at least 8-11 months to pay and save.

We're getting married 9/15/23 and we're sending ours a year out. We just ordered them yesterday. I've heard lots of different ranges from 10-12 months to 6-8 months and we decided to go with sooner than later. Because it's only 2 weeks after Labor Day I wanted to get the save the dates out early enough that people can save their time off/travel days etc for the wedding and not use them up with Labor Day plans. If we were getting married closer to the end of Sept I'd probably wait but we have quite a few guests traveling for the wedding and are getting married on a Friday so as it is that requires 2 days off (1 travel day and 1 for the wedding) for people that don't live where we're getting married. It might not be necessary but I wanted to be safe Smiley smile we'll prob send actual invites 4-6 months out for the same reason.

I just sent out the save the dates and our wedding isn’t until September 2023. lol. However it is in a different state and the weekend we are getting married there is a huge state fair going on in that area. But wanted to make sure people were able to book their hotels with no issues
