When to send Save The Dates (HELP!!!)

Charmaine, on January 23, 2017 at 11:24 AM Posted in Planning 0 17

My wedding isn't until August 18, 2018 but Im confused as to when I should send out my Save the Dates. I've heard soo many different things such as a year prior, six months. I don't want to send them out too far that people forget and then I don't want to send them out too close to the actual invitations.

6-9 months out for STDs. It's recommended that you only send them to OOT VIPs. That way you have some wiggle room with your guest list. You also don't have to send out STDs unless you have a lot of OOT people.

6-8 months is typical. I sent mine in August 2016 for March 2017.

6-8 months. Ok to go 9, MAYBE 10 if it's a dw. I have a lot of oot guests, but I sent mine a little over 6 months out. ETA: like @kate, mine only went to oot guests and really close in town friends or family

Please heed the advice of PPs! 6-8 months is typical for STDs. Please only send to VIPs. SO many brides send out STDs to absolutely everyone on their guest list and then freak out when a change in circumstance occurs and they can no longer afford to pay for all of these guests. This way you have tons of wiggle room in your guest count to accommodate unforeseen financial hardship.

My date is August 12th. I sent mine the first week in January. Didn't want them in the mix with Holiday cards.

We're planning to send ours in February or early March for an October wedding. Most of FH's family live in different states and I have several family members in the military so we wanted to give them plenty off time to plan and see if it's even possible to come.

For my oot guest I actually did a std via Facebook (our my family has their own page) a year in advance. I'll be sending mine out for my family and FH family by the end of the month. Our wedding is the beginning of September.

@ Charmaine typically 6 months are you doing destination wedding or locally. I know people will do a year to 8 months if Destination Wedding. I'm getting married a bit before you and planning to send out my STD to OOT guests in February 2018 but will order them during holidays when there are a lot of 50% Sale .
