When to send out save the dates?

Mallory, on October 23, 2019 at 12:42 AM Posted in Planning 0 25
Long story short, my fiancé and i just moved from Memphis, TN to Charlotte, NC. We decided to have the wedding in Charlotte, and over 80% of our guests are coming in from Memphis. Our date is 10.24.20 and we are trying to decide when to send our save the dates! I want to give more than enough time so everybody has enough time to make arrangements, and so no one will say that we didn’t give them enough warning time. I was considering sending them out in early/mid May? Then invitations in late July? Please help!

Similar situation here, having an out of state wedding where 90% of guests will have to fly (though not necessarily a "destination" wedding). Anywho, I'm planning on sending my STDs out 6-8 months before the wedding so they will have time to plan their travel / time off arrangements. I think 6 months is customary for OOT weddings but I wanted to give them a little more time.

Since most of your guests will be traveling, I would send save the dates out 8-10 months in advance to give people plenty of time to make arrangements. Formal invitations should go out about 2 months in advance.

So for a late October wedding, you’d be looking at getting save the dates out by the end of February at the latest, and then invitations out in August.

I’m in the I’m in the same boat—pretty much everyone is going to have to travel for our wedding. It adds a whole other level of planning! 😬

If a lot of people will have to travel I’d send them sometime between January and March

My wedding is 10/10/20 and I have a decent amount coming from 3+ hours away as well as flying across the country. There is another big event in the town we're getting married in that is affecting the hotel bookings SO I'm ordering and sending them out in the next couple of weeks.

We’re sending ours out mid November for our early November 2020 wedding. It’s on a Sunday so we wanna make sure everyone has time to make the proper arrangements. If most of your guests are traveling, I would send them out around November before the holidays or January after the holidays.

Wedding is in March and is a DW so we sent out our save the dates 8 months before. Sending our actual invitations out about 3 1/2 months before.

My wedding is 10/10/2020. We plan to send ours in Jan. That way we give them time to save for any travel and plan accordingly. We are doing invites at the end of July beginning of August 2020.

We sent our save the dates 10 months ahead, and invites 3 months ahead. We had a lot of out of state guests!

Since you have so many guests who will need to travel, I would send STDs out a lot sooner than May. That's only 5 months. Typically, STDs go out 9-10 months before the wedding, sometimes earlier if it's a destination (out of country) wedding. So, I would send them out sometime in January, to give your guests plenty of time to make their arrangements.

We're in a similar situation. It's not exactly a destination wedding since it's my hometown, but our closest guest is still an hour away. We decided to send our save the dates out in early February for an early November wedding. And we're think early to mid August for invites.

If you are having out of town guests, you need to think about how this basically will be a short vacation for them on top of other things they have going on. Not saying the wedding is only about the guests but its being courteous of others time. I would suggest 9 months at least! This gives them time to arrange other vacations they may have in mind to schedule in and at the same time, save up.

We have almost everyone coming from out of town too, and sent them out about 9 months in advance.

We're going to send our save the dates about 10 months in advance because most of our guests live about 3 hours away, and we are getting married January 2nd so it is very near the holidays, so we want to give everyone time to plan around that.

Ok so I've been struggling with this as well. We got engaged in August but picked our date in Sept, so we're getting married March 21, 2020.

When do we actually send the Save the Dates?! and then when do we send the invitations? never did this before so all of this is new to us, we're a seasoned couple...lol

You should probably send your STDs asap. 8-10 months before your wedding is typical and you are already 5 months out. Since you are having a pretty short engagement, people will understand, but I wouldn't hold off too long.

    Thank you Dayna.

they didn't have these out when I got married the first time... we didn't even do invites...lol

thank you so much for the information.

When is a good time to send out the invitations? I have a few people who are coming from out of town, so mostly everyone is here.
