When to send invites & make rsvp?

Lauryn, on May 3, 2016 at 9:41 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

Is August 1st a good rsvp date? I have to have the catering final details 3 weeks pre-wedding, so last week of August. I figured send mid to late June and have like 2 weeks to call those who don't rsvp?

    Here is/was my timeline:

    Wedding: June 11

    Invitations sent: April 11

    RSVP on invitations: May 14

    Deadline to venue: May 25

I think June is too early to send for a September wedding in my opinion. Id sent them out mid-July.

When does your caterer/venue need final numbers? Take that date and move it back a week, and that should be your RSVP date. You need a week or so to track down people who don't reply, but not too much time. You should send your invites 6-8 weeks before that RSVP date.

My wedding is the week before yours - I'm sending my invitations late June and RSVP date is August 8th.

Date twin! I'm sending invites at the end of July and my RSVP date is August 26. I need final numbers by 9/3 so this gives me a week to track people down.

When to send invites: 6-8 weeks before the wedding, or maybe a bit longer if it's a DW or holiday weekend.

When to send RSVP: Work backward from when you need to get the final numbers to your caterer. Have your RSVP date at least a week before that, so that you'll have time to call and harass the people who don't RSVP--and there will be some.

My timeline is similar to many of yours. I just received an invitation, but no RSVP card in there...I find that really really odd...I dunno what to do? FB her saying I regretfully decline?

I sent my invitations 2 months before the wedding and asked everyone to RSVP before 1 month prior to the wedding. Most people did RSVP, but several didn't. I personally asked them if they were coming or not. I had a few say maybe so I wrote them down as a yes.

You won't need two weeks to call those that don't rsvp. They don't deserve that much time. My suggestions:

    Mail invites: mid-July

    RSVP deadline: mid-August

Heather, you are so much nicer than me. I would've told those "maybes" that they were down as "no." Rude.

    Wedding: August 13

    Invitations: mailing June 1

    RSVP: July 19

    Catering deadline : August 10

I need a little time between RSVP & the wedding because I'm having a very specific place card printed & need time for them to arrive. Otherwise, I might have pushed my RSVP another week.

Typically invitations go out eight weeks in advance. The majority of our guests are traveling more than five hours to attend. So, I gave them two extra weeks of wiggle room to make arrangements.

Some of my guests have already booked their hotel rooms. That's better than a yes on the RSVP to me.

^Kimi I was thinking of a similar timeframe as yours

    Wedding: August 26th

Invitations Mailed: Late May-Early June (My family is all out of town)

    RSVP: July 15th

    Catering Deadline: August 23rd

I need the extra time because I will be wrapping up grad school around my wedding. We also have guests who have already booked hotel rooms.

Thanks everyone. Yeah I guess I forgot to mention and really haven't even thought about the out of town factor. I'd say at least 75% of people are out of town by 2 hours and everyone (even people not on the guest list) have been asking for hotel information already.

Similar timeline with Kimi and Brittany:

    Wedding: August 20th

Invitations mailed: Late May/ Early June

    RSVP: July 15th

    Catering Deadline: August 6th

I'm in a wedding July 23rd, so I wanted a little time to hunt people down.

    Wedding: August 27, 2016

Invitations will be sent: June 27

    RSVP date: August 5

Deadline to the Venue is: August 14

I figured a week to call anyone who never RSVP.

Giving ourselves enough time to finish buying some things and give a more accurate number to the places we are getting our food.
