Laura, on June 5, 2015 at 2:43 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 24

Hi all!! My wedding is in November 2015, any recommendations on when to schedule a food tasting at my booked venue?

Thanks for your help!

Ask your caterer, every one is different.

Thanks Emmy, but unfortunately the caterer just said it was up to me Smiley sad

I am not sure if I do it now or just wait until closer to the day.

Date twin!! There's so few of us on that day! If I were you, I would get that out of the way earlier unless there's something specific you're waiting on. One less decision to make later!

We usually schedule ours 6-8 months before the wedding.

I was wondering the same thing and I am in October. I met with my venue this week and we are going to be scheduling it sometime in the next couple of weeks. I was pushing for mine to be soon because we are putting choices on our response cards and I wanted to make sure that we liked the choices before we had everyone picking from. I would say if you know what you want you might as well do it and get it done and off the list.

My venue, who is also doing the catering, told me August or early September to do food tasting for our January wedding.

I agree that it depends on your caterer.

Our caterer left it up to us, so we are doing it tomorrow (about 7 months in advance.) Best to ask your caterer if they have a preference.

6-8 months seems about right. We did ours in February for our September wedding.

I'm in October and we did tastings with 3 caterers over a couple months, and booked about 2 months ago.

We did our tasting in November. We wanted to try the food before officially booking our venue. So we did it during the initial refundable deposit period.

We're not the norm, I guess - we are doing our tasting next month for our August wedding. It's a country club and they serve food on a daily basis, so we could have gone earlier, but they are letting us taste the entire buffet.

I did my tasting the next week after I picked the venue because I didn't want to wait and do it and the food was horrible and then Not be able to find another venue.

We are doing ours hopefully this month. They are giving us limited dates and on top of that the director of catering lady we work with keeps giving us dates she is not available. It is soo frustrasting. I honestly hate working with the people at our venue. They seemed so nice at first, but it turned to be so frustrating. First, we booked and then we got told we would be working with someone else. So, whatever no big deal. Well, we had our tasting all set up for May 30th and May 22nd I get an email confirming our tasting for the next day. I was sooooo mad because we had confirmed a few times it was the 30th not the 23rd because we know how flaky they are and don't seem to care we don't live close enough just to drive up there at last minute notice. We couldn't make it the 23rd. So, then she tells us she is leaving and gave us another ladys info and told me to it would be best to start working with her now (then) to get that all taken care of. I wanted to punch her. She literally didn't give a shit. So, as of now we have a tasting scheduled for the 20th, but we have to change it because it's one of my BMs daughters bday parties (don't even get me started on that). So, I have to look through the dates and see if I can reschedule soon. We need to do it ASAP because our invites are going to be getting started on and we have to have the food info for the RSVP card. I am so glad I got a planner because I would go insane if I had to work with this venue all by myself.

So, I would do it during wedding season and as soon as you can. I regret not just doing it earlier this year. I had no idea it was going to get this tough and it's my fault to because I know our summer weekends are usually booked solid. I should have planned our wedding for next Feb. but my ex planner told me if I were to plan longer than 1 year it would probably just stress me out. I wanted I think it was Feb. 8th 2016 for our wedding date, but ended up with a September date and it's hard to get everything done. I should have never listened to her.

Our coordinator recommended doing it early so you could plan your menu and have enough time to print invitations etc. Our chef recomended doing it closer to the season to get the true taste of what it will be like. we did ours the first week in may.
