When to put the veil on?

Shannon , on May 29, 2013 at 1:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 9

Hi Gals! I am wearing a cathedral veil for my wedding and was wondering when the best time to put it on would be. Here are my thoughts:

We are getting hair and makeup done at a salon, do I bring the veil with me and have the hairdresser put it on?

OR!

Do I put it on right before/after my dress goes on and have my mom and bridesmaids help to make for great pictures?

OR!

My groom and I are doing a first look and pictures BEFORE the ceremony; do I wait to put the veil on until after the first look/right before the ceremony, to at least leave some element of surprise?

THANK YOU FABULOUS WOMEN!

I would have my hairdresser do it! She/he can also show someone how to take it out without wrecking your hair.

I remember someone suggesting that the hair dresser should put it in because they will know how to make it stay but if you feel confident enough that you can get it to say I would suggest waiting.

I kind of like the idea of putting the veil on for the ceremony and waiting until after the first look because like you said, there will be an additional surprise for your FH

My hairdresser is doing it for me... she knows how and I rather she do it than me try to figure out where to put it.

I kinda like the look of flowy veils with the groom. I would say have the hair dresser put your veil in and be super careful no one steps on it! Here's a picture of what I was thinking about - minus the hubby what looks to be biting the neck? Weird... But the flow is pretty!

I put my veil on right before the ceremony.. I did a first look too and didn't want to wear my veil yet.. My cousin did my hair so she went into the girls room at our venue and fixed, sprayed, teased my hair and added the veil.. But then again my cousin is a hairdresser and was at my wedding so it was easier for me. I think it would make great pics if you have your mom or bridesmaids helping but maybe you can ask the hairdresser to give them pointers if you want them for pics.

I had my hair stylist put it in, my hair takes a ton of work to make things stay so she worked her magic to keep it in and showed us how to get it out after the ceremony.

I had the hairdresser do it. You can wrap it around your arm so you aren't tripping over it all day. I had cathedral length too. I was planning to take it off for the reception, but ended up so busy trying to say hello to everyone that I left it on till almost the end. So I had that sucker on almost the entire day, but it was fine. I liked having the entire look complete early in the day and ready for the first look.

As you can see from my profile pic, my veil wasn't quite as long as yours is. But I had my hairdresser put it in for me. Had my MOH take it out after pictures and before the reception.

I am so glad my hairdresser is my MOH, lol. I;m putting mine in at the salon. My veil is cathedral with a blusher, but both parts are removable from the comb, so I can oput the comb in and attach the tulle once I am out of the vehicle or whatever works.
