When to Bustle?

Brooke, on January 8, 2017 at 1:48 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 12

So I searched past posts and noticed the only bustle questions were how much do they cost and why are they necessary etc. But I have a new question:

When during the night did previous brides actually bustle their dress? Also open to when upcoming brides plan to bustle theirs! After post-ceremony photos and before the first dance, did you wait until after the first dance so your train would be in those pictures?

I know I want to have my train bustled for sure, we will be doing post-ceremony photos, then an outdoor garden cocktail hour where we can mingle with our guests, then we will go inside the reception room and have our first dance then dinner. I just don't know where in that time frame I would actually pull up the bustle.

You put up the bustle at least before your first dance but you definitely need one if you have a decent sized train for your own safety.

Most of my couples do the bustle immediately after the cereomony (and photos) but before they join the guests. I have never seen a train come to the first dance, lol....

Unfortunately I think because of timing a lot of people do it before the bridal party entrance (after picture/cocktail hour) so the dresses are typically already bustled before the 1st dance). If you didn't do that, you would have to sneak off with your bustler (mom, MOH, whoever) while dinner service was starting and that might be tricky

I'm going to bustle as soon as possible. I am going to be annoyed dragging that train around plus I want to try to sell or donate the dress and want to keep it nice. I'll probably take pics with the train and then bustle.

Thank y'all! I haven't been to many weddings in my life where I was old enough to pay attention to that sort of thing. Last wedding i went to was my Aunt's and I was the flower girl lol.

@La Grosera, thank you for your input! I didn't think too much about tripping over it, as it is just a Chapel-length train, not too long. But you bring out a great point!

I'm bustling as soon as we leave the ceremony. Most of our photographs will be done before the ceremony, and I want to make sure it's bustled before we join everyone in cocktail hour. I would hate for someone to step on me!

I had a long train and a cathedral veil. My dress was bustled right when we arrived at the reception venue (we had a church wedding and took the majority of our pictures there).

We planned to bustle right after pictures, but it no joke was so complicated I didn't want to take the 20 minutes to do it. Ended up just carrying my train around my arm. Wish I would have done a wristlet instead.

I bustled mine after we finished taking post ceremony photos and before we were introduced at the reception.
