When to book vendors

Kelly, on December 3, 2019 at 12:34 AM Posted in Planning 0 11
Hi ladies! I’m lost when it comes to when is proper time to book vendors. How early did everyone start booking DJ, florist, hair/makeup, photographer, etc. ?

My wedding is December 3, 2021 & I’d love to begin booking but unsure if this is considered too early to some vendors! Thanks in advance💛

This is a pretty example of wedding planning timeline. You can never book things too early

Most DJs/photographers I spoke to early in the year were already booking into 2021 so I think you can start there, especially if you one someone particular in mind you want to snag! I did my florist about 5 months in advance

We booked our venue last month for our 4/24/21 wedding. If you know where you want to do it I say start talking to them.
We had a venue in mind but found out it was already booked so we made looking for a venue a priority right away.

Once you have a venue/date I feel like everything else just falls into place

There's really no such thing as "too early," especially when it comes to venues and photographers, which tend to book up the fastest. The only things that you should really wait for (which aren't vendors) are selecting your wedding party and your dress.

I agree with PP's, pretty much never too early! Vendors book up fast so the sooner the better in my opinion. Our whole engagement is only eight months long (originally ten months before we moved our date up), and a lot of vendors I contacted in July of this year were booked for most of 2020! I would book your venue and photographer the soonest, then start researching other vendors and reaching out Smiley smile

We are getting married may 9 2020. Booked our venue and photographer and dj in Sept 2019. Went wedding dress shopping dec 1 2019. I would say get the big stuff out the way first, like your venue n photographer n DJ. And itll be a little easier from there.

If you're ready to book, I'd start reaching out to the vendors you are interested in. Some may tell you they don't book this early, then you'll need to decide if you want to wait or continue with others who will book on a longer timeline. Daughter planned their wedding in 17 months. One photographer she was interested in would not book more than 12 months in advance. The wedding was in the "off-season" where we live, so daughter was willing to wait. (Ultimately, she didn't like the photographer she waited on and picked someone else who she loved.) Her baker was willing to meet with us and do a tasting, but wouldn't actually book until 8 months out. At the time she was attempting to book both her photographer and DJ, they were getting other inquiries about her date. Luckily, they both gave her first right of refusal, and she was able to book them. A lot depends on your location, the popularity of your date, etc. With a December wedding, I'd expect you'll be competing with both other weddings and holiday parties, so if you're ready, I'd start contacting people and see what they say. Good luck!

I booked stuff pretty late lol, but we didn’t have a DJ, I booked my florist 2 weeks in advance (don’t recommend waiting that long hahah I cut it pretty close but hey it worked out), booked our photographer 9 months in advance, and hair about 3 months in advance (I did my own makeup). December 3 is a Friday, yes? If so, things probably won’t book up as quickly as a Saturday wedding would. You definitely could start booking now but I don’t think it’s necessary until you’re a year out 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'd say it depends on the popularity of your vendors
