When the Soloist is singing what do we do?

James to Be ♥, on June 1, 2012 at 8:16 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

So I want to have a soloist play the piano and sing Matthew West- When I say I do at some point in the ceremony. But for those having a soloist or having been to a wedding with one what did the bride & groom do? Stare at the soloist, Stare at each other?

I attended a wedding with a soloist and the bride and groom stared at each other, then they began to giggle, the BP joined in and soon the entire place was in a fit of laughter...the soloist was awesome...kept singing then stated "thanks for not laughing at me..." took a bow and pretended to "trip" on the way to her seat! She was a complete blast at the reception too! Best wedding ever! That being said, I believe most stare deeply into each others eyes and state their complete and unconditional love for one another (or maybe they are talking about the weather??) I don't know what I would do...

Longest 3 minutes of my life! Friend sang in the middle of our ceremony. We just looked at each other.

Maybe she could sing while you light the unity candle or do the unity sand?

I sing at weddings all the time. Usually couples have some kind of ceremony like: lighting the unity candle, a sand ceremony, giving the mothers/grandmothers flowers, signing the marriage license, etc....I suggest having SOMETHING to do even if it doesn't take the whole time. You'll be happy you did. Otherwise you've got a long 3-5 minutes staring at each other, and it gets very uncomfortable after about the first minute.

That's why we didn't have any soloists or special music - we didn't do a unity candle, and I think it's always super awkward to watch the couple just stand there.

Would you want her to sing during the processional?

We are having my brother and sister sing while we light the unity candel. I figured after we finish lighting it and get back to where we need to be we can just turn and watch them sing? My brother is playing the guitar and I figured it wouldn't be that big of a deal if we just watched them and didn't just stare at each other.

Last wedding I attended the couple watched the soloist, I think it would be a bit awkward to stare at each other the whole time.
