When should i send wedding invitations?

Jenna, on March 31, 2022 at 11:28 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14
Hello,

I'm wondering when to send invitations for my wedding in November. Its in New York and the vast majority of my guests will be coming from out of town (Michigan and Ohio). I want to make sure everyone has time to make travel arrangements. I've heard 6 months before the wedding but am wondering if I should send them in April. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you!

I would send Save The Dates around 6 months before the wedding, and then send formal invitations 6-8 weeks before the wedding! The Save The Dates will give people a heads up to make travel plans. Sending invitations too soon may cause people to forget to RSVP (they might not know their plans 6 months in advance), or some people may need to change their RSVP later on due to unforeseen changes in their plans, etc. I would wait to send formal invitations until 6-8 weeks ahead of time.

Send Save the Dates around 6 months beforehand, send invitations about 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding date.

I agree with Lisa! Your Save the Date should be sent about 6 months out. They can be an email or some other virtual method if you are trying to save cost on printed materials. We sent postcards for our Save the Dates and a lot of our friends hung them on their fridges as reminders.

Invites should be sent anywhere from 8-6 weeks out.

If you heard 6 months, that would be for save-the-dates. Your actual invitations will be 6–8 weeks before. Any earlier and people will forget about it, or not be able to give you a firm answer yet.

I sent my save the dates a year out so people have a heads up since it’s destination and everyone coming is close family/friends so I know they won’t forget. I’ll do my invitations 8 weeks out

Six months is way too far in advance for invitations. It's also the absolute latest that you should send save-the-dates if you're interested in those. We ultimately decided not to send them. We had a good number of invitees from out of state, so we sent our invitations out about 10 weeks in advance.

Save the dates are sent by phone call at 6 months. Regardless of where your guests are located, you send invitations at 6-8 weeks. No earlier or later. If you send them earlier than 8 weeks they will lose the information and forget. If they are sent after 6 weeks, they will feel like they are unimportant seat fillers. Typically the caterer requires the final guest headcount around 2 weeks. 4-8 weeks ahead for the final headcount is rare and impossible for guests to commit to. Many employers do not confirm schedules before 4 weeks as well. Allow a buffer of a week for you and fiancé to contact any stray replies after the due date. So that puts your rsvp due date at 4 weeks before the wedding.

We're sending ours out in September for a December wedding. Traditionally, we would do October, but because we are getting married so close to the holidays (and in between Thanksgiving and Christmas/Chanukah), we are giving a slightly sooner heads up. We sent out save the dates at 8 months out (just last week) so people know. We're also having a smaller wedding, so it'll be easier to track everyone down. Our venue (again, because of the time of the year) is requiring a slightly sooner final head count, so its upped our timeline slightly (By about 3 weeks).

I wouldn't send them out any earlier than the end of August/September for a November wedding.

6 months for save the dates
    2 months for invites
1 month before the wedding to rsvp by
That’s how we did ours and it seemed like plenty of time. ☺️

If you’re not planning to do save the dates, I would reach out specifically to those who are out of town and let them know the date you’re planning! Just in case they need to make extra arrangements/save for flights/hotel and all of that stuff. The people who are local can just wait for the regular invitation!

Save the Dates are 6-7 months from your wedding date.

and your wedding invitations are generally mailed out 6-8 weeks.

My wedding is 4/15/2022 and we mailed out our invitations February 10th. We have several guests coming from all over the country and that time frame gave ample time for our guests to get the invitations and mail the RSVP response cards back. It worked out well.
