I believe right after the wedding ceremony. When I had to do this for my friend, the officiant pulled me and another person aside after the ceremony to sign it. Check your town’s website and see what it says regarding procedures. I’m in MA and we don’t need witnesses here.

The license is signed after the ceremony takes place.

My friend was married in a church as well, and they said they just needed two signatures. Ask your priest, they should know and can likely inform you best!

I was maid of honor in my brother's wedding and my dad was best man. We signed the license immediately after the ceremony.

Yep. They are signing that they have witnessed the marriage, so the marriage (ceremony) has to have taken place. So people will sign it right before the ceremony begins or step away right after. It's literally like a 2 minute thing, so if you aren't paying attention, you'll likely miss it. We totally forgot and had 2 people sign it at the end of the night when we remembered lol. They literally just sign their name and that's it. Then the officiant files it with the township/city/municipality.

The license is permission to marry. They don't sign that. The certificate is the legal proof of the wedding. It can be signed by the couple and witnesses as part of the ceremony after the vows before the kiss at the end, as is common in Europe and Canada. Or it can done privately after the ceremony.

In my state, the witnesses sign the license that is then submitted to the township and we picked up the certificate 2 weeks later.

In my state only the officiant signs, but theyare signing the license. You have to mail it back to get the certificate. I think ours was signed during the equivalent of cocktail hour.

When I lived in NY, it was after the ceremony. Also NJ was the same way.

I didn't see ours get signed. We also had a Catholic wedding and I had to ask the deacon during the reception about it. My husband and I signed it when we picked it up.

I'm assuming the Priest will have the correct parties sign it after the ceremony. Once he makes sure it is complete he should also send it off for you.
