When do you throw rice?

When is the send off usually performed? Most people now have their ceremony and venue in the same location, how does the send off work then? Also, who still throws rice? I know some churches don't allow that anymore.

I have seen miniature "send offs" after a ceremony where the reception is in the same location. My MOH- at her wedding- gave out tiny bags of confetti (outdoor venue) and guests threw them as they walked back up the aisle after the kiss. The photos were AMAZING and people had fun with it. Otherwise a larger sendoff I imagine would happen at the end of the whole event if you're doing it all in one place.

I don't get send offs really....FH's friend tried to do a sparkler sendoff at his wedding, there was some sort of delay, and one of the bridesmaids got badly burned waiting for them to come out. It sucked.

I mean...I only enjoy my rice cooked! Plus I haven't seen this done my entire life except if you count in the movies. I heard it's bad for the wildlife.

I found these Wilton pop out streamers I plan to use. They stay connected, so easy cleanup and my venue allows them! https://www.amazon.com/Wilton-1006-932-Pop-Streamers-pack/dp/B002BSHDKE

I've only ever seen it done at the end of the reception, as the couple was leaving. I agree about the birdseed though. My personal favorite is sparklers because they make for some really cool photos!

Question! I want to do this - our reception is a few steps from our ceremony - but what about the people not sitting next to the aisle? Do they just throw petals (doing dried rose petals) up and over? Do they get all over the other guests? Does anyone mind?
