When do you throw rice?

Meghan , on October 27, 2016 at 6:09 PM Posted in Planning 0 28

When is the send off usually performed? Most people now have their ceremony and venue in the same location, how does the send off work then? Also, who still throws rice? I know some churches don't allow that anymore.

Plus, rice is much better to eat than to throw.

    Not a fan of this.

    Blow bubbles instead?

But still when do you do the send off? We might not do rice, but those little bell wands

Please don't. And most venue no longer allow it. Or confetti. Or rose petals. Because it's not great for the environment, clean up or the wildlife. Wild animal releases are also bad, as are balloon releases.

bubbles, sparklers, banners all good things. Or you just don't have any of that. It's not necessary and frankly it's a waste of money that could be better spent elsewhere.

I've seen people pass bubbles out before the ceremony and people blow them when the couple exits the ceremony.

I'm not a fan of grand exits at the end of a reception, mostly because they feel very forced and not candid at all. Just my opinion.

    You don't.

I can't imagine getting rice in my hair, down my dress etc...

but if you must throw something, please throw birdseed.

So is it after the party is over or after the ceremony?

We did a sparkler exit at the end of the reception.

But.... I've never been to a wedding with a send off.... but I've heard of weddings that do it after the reception.

To answer your question, you usually do a send off after you exit your ceremony location on the way to the reception. If you have your ceremony and reception in the same place, then you would do the send off at the end of the reception.

End of reception send offs work better with earlier cutoffs (like, before 10:30 p.m.). If you're partying late into the night, you might consider skipping it all together.

Alternatively, I've seen some people also do a "send off" during the recessional or during the grand entrance into the reception. It all kind of depends on what works best logistically, but you have a lot of options.

You can do either, but I find both of them kind of unnecessary

I haven't seen this since I was a kid. None of the adult weddings I have gone to have had anything thrown.

Honestly I've only seen send offs in movies! And it's always as the happy couple is running out of the chapel straight to the honeymoon lol! So I didn't really have a good idea of when this was to happen. I like the idea of doing something for the grand entrance or just having the bubbles or ribbons in hand during the ceremony. Thanks guys!

I would say if you really want to do something like this than do it when you come in for your grand entrance. We are not having a "send off" we are going to party till the last person leaves or our time runs out, not sense in ending the party just so people can blow bubbles or wave ribbons at us (well we cannot have bubbles even but you get the point lol)

Do not throw rice or send balloons up. It kills wildlife and harms the environment. Look into bubbles.

Don't do that!! It's so bad for the birds and other wildlife. I've seen that sparkles have become a big thing, you should look into something like that instead Smiley smile

We are doing sparklers at my wedding! I suggest maybe doing bubbles or some people release balloons or lanterns. There is eco friendly confetti but you would have to check with your venue to see what they allow.

I've always seen the send off done after the ceremony. Most people wait outside the ceremony space and wait for the bride and groom to walk out together. I've seen bubbles and sparklers used. I'm having a lavender wedding and am considering having lavender buds to throw Smiley smile
