When do you pay?

Fallenwagon, on July 25, 2017 at 1:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 24

I wonder for most venues do you pay ahead of time or get billed? That goes for catering and cake ,alcohol to?

This will depend on your contract. we had to pay for our catering 3 weeks prior to the event. other vendors like our photographer don't require payment until after the event. many of our bills depended upon us having final RSVP numbers, so we are paying most of them now.

I know for me, all that was spelled out in the contracts. Double check them. But I know in my sister's case she had two weeks after the wedding to pay some of her vendors. Guess it really depends on the vendors policy.

Depends, most vendors require a deposit at the least. And sometimes payments are broken up into months (pay at the 6 month mark, 3 month mark, etc.)

It varies by vendor but your contract should tell you. For our photographer, cake and DJ we had to pay 2 weeks before the wedding. The venue was 30 days before. The caterer gave us a bill that was due by 2 weeks after the wedding.

Our contract for every vendor etc was to be paid in full at least 1 week in advance of the wedding day.

I have never heard of a venue being paid afterwards. In fact, I've never heard of anyone being paid afterwards except a few photographers and occasionally, me, (and when that happens, it is always my fault....).

There just really isn't a good time to talk money on the day; even if you don't have to pay ahead, I think it's a better idea.

We paid about 15% of our food & beverage minimum as a deposit for our venue to hold our date. Final payment for our venue (and caterer, etc.) is due 7 days before.

For our photographer and other smaller vendors, we had to pay 50% to hold our date and the rest is due the month before our date.

Most of my contracts state all fees are due a month before the wedding (DJ, photog...) Ceremony venue had to be paid in full to reserve our date.

Catering/reception venue/appetizers all due 1-2 weeks before wedding when we finalize the guest list. Alcohol will be paid on a per drink basis so that'll be paid at the end of the night.

Depends on the venue.. Ours rsquired a deposit to book, and the balance isn't due until the conclusion of the event (so that night) obviously it would be better to pay ahead of time so we don't have to worry about that then

All our vendors required payment in full prior to the wedding. The venue, because of final head count, was due the day of the wedding, but it was only the last 15% or so.

Discuss with each vendor or review the contract

Depends on the contract with the specific vendor

For our venue it was a deposit up front. Half of the remaining balance 6 months before the date and then the finalized payment 10 days before

Our other two vendors we booked so far havent had any kind of schedule they just have a date the full amount is due by (DJ is day of, photographer is 2 weeks before). Our photographer did request we make at least one payment a month, but we are allowed to set the date and the amount and it can fluctuate so its not a hard and fast X amount per month. We're paying off biweekly at the moment.

Our vendors discussed the payment schedule with us before putting it into the contract. Most of them wanted the last payment to be made 2-3 weeks before the wedding, but we requested they change it to 4 weeks prior. We want to be done with the payments as early as possible. But yeah, it was all listed in the contract.

I require a non-refundable retainer to hold the date and the balance 30 days before -- because after one wedding the groom was asking his parents and new in-laws for cash to pay my balance. I didn't want any other couples to be embarrassed like that.

We paid a deposit in April 2016 when we booked and then we had a 50% payment due July 2017. We will have a 75% payment due in January and then the rest 2 weeks before our wedding.

For our venue, photographer & videographer we will be them in full 1 month before the wedding per contract. We did have to put down deposits/holding date fees.

Every contract should outline payments. That being said, we're trying to pay things off as early as possible.

All that I have booked have had a deposit to pay when you book it. Some require the rest 30 days before the wedding, others have let me make payments.

The contract and venue policy will dictate that. Most places will require a deposit, some kind of secondary payment and then payment in full prior to the wedding. That will vary by vendor though

Our venue was a deposit. Half of the remaining balance 6months out. Final payment and guest list two weeks prior
