When do we get our marriage certificate back after wedding?

Maggie , on September 28, 2016 at 6:38 PM Posted in Married Life 1 27

I was wondering how long it takes to get your official marriage license back after the wedding.

We got married almost three weeks ago(9/10) and our officiant said she sent it in right away(didn't say when, but she sent it). I still have not gotten the official marriage license yet and really would like it to come soon, so i can start the whole name changing thing.

For those of you who are married already, how long did it take to get yours back?

We got ours back in about 9 days total. According to when it was notarized, the officiant sent it in the Tuesday after our Sunday wedding. But I have read/heard that it has taken people about 2 weeks. We're from Pennsylvania, if that makes a difference.

We just got ours this week (in Los Angeles), so about 6 weeks after the wedding. I don't remember how long they said it would take, but I think it was something like 6 weeks.

10 days! Got married on 8/28, went to the courthouse on 9/6 and it was ready. It could've been 9 days also, only 9/5 was a holiday.

Fortunately I was able to get a copy the day we submitted our license to be recorded. About a 10 minute wait and we were in Florida.

@Michelle, 6 weeks to get it? man, that's a long time! I hope it doesn't take that long! I am going to call next week if we don't get it by then. We got married in the same state as we live, just different county.

We left for our honeymoon right after the wedding, that is why I gave it to our officiant to mail it in.

Mine took 3 weeks. But my guess is they may be delayed for you because of the increase in weddings over labor day weekend?

We have to go to Vital Statistics 2 weeks after we are married to get it. They don't automatically mail them out where I live (Chicago).

In California, I have to wait a week then go in person to get it. Mailing is fine too but I have to notarize the signature.

I am in GA and we have to request ours. We were told about a week for it to be ready but they advised for us to call to be on the safe side.

We got married in New York and got our marriage certificate about 4 to 5 weeks after the wedding. I think they generally take 4 to 6 weeks in the process but if the delay is more than that you need to call them.

I'm in NY, got mine in 10 days. It depends on when the officiant mails it in. Ours mailed it in right away.

We got married in DC and our priest signed copies A and B (which were filled in the Church and DC Court), and we were given copy C after the ceremony.

I got married on Sept. 20/2020 and it's now Dec. 10/2020 and have not received nothing back.

Is there someone I should contact about this?
