When did your fiance shop for tux?

Kimberly, on October 14, 2019 at 1:59 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 30

Hi ladies! I've been MIA for a bit because I'm done with planning and it is and has been the waiting game for a while. Anyway, I'm wondering when did your FH start looking for his tux/suit? My fiance decided he would rather rent and that's fine but he tends to procrastinate and I'm not sure what the usual timeline is for men to start looking for their suits? Our wedding is 6 months away on April 25, 2020.

You could start shopping now. Places like Men Wearhouse only have a couple options when it comes to renting and they don't seem to change often. If you already know the color, tie/bowtie, vest, you are looking for they can start your profile now and take measurements and then they will just have him come back a week to a few days before for final measurements before they order.

Thank you! I'll let him know. I think the sooner the better for him to get started otherwise I know he'll put it off later and later.

We rented tuxes through the black tux and began the process in October for our December wedding.

Mine is planning on buying his (he is very picky on color) from Perry Ellis, so we went scoping at the outlet a few weeks ago. We will probably hit them up on Cyber Monday.

Thanks! I had mentioned to him looking online but we'd need to go somewhere first to get all his measurements.

I agree with Lauren, you can starts now just to get an idea of color scheme and size, but to be honest places like men’s warehouse have limited suite options and they rarely change it’s usually accessories ( tie, pocket square) that are released in new shades from time to time. My fiancé and I started a good 9 months early and honestly it wasn’t necessary since renting is just selecting color and getting measured. They don’t event carry the full suite usually they have to be pulled in from a warehouse hub

Thanks! He does have an idea of the suit he wants (red or dark red) so for him it is just a matter of getting it started. I just wanted to make sure I didn't need to be on his back about it. lol

Got ya! Well I can tell you for sure MW only has red to purchase but The Black Tux carries a lot more colors and unique suites. I would try there

He started looking 6 months out. We went into 3 stores and he did 3 online try ons, then told his groomsmen 2 months out.

We started looking 7 to 8 months before but husband wanted to purchase the tux and we had a color in mind that was no easy to find specially because all stores had fall collection and our color was more of spring. Eventually after we went the custom tux we found a store that did it 6 weeks before so no worries here. For our groomsman rental I did the contract 5 months before and everyone had to go do measurements 4 months before as per our contract. If there were any big changes as far as gain weight or lost they had to go back 2 to 3 weeks before for re-measures. This might change depending on how high demand the place has.

Thank you! Glad to hear even 6 weeks before hand you guys were able to get the tux! It seems the tux/suits aren't as time consuming as dress shopping can be.

We are about 8 months out and my FH has been casually looking. He said turnaround time for a suit is way shorter than for a dress (usually 1-2 months instead of a dress which can be 4-6 months for delivery and then another 2-4 months for alterations and fittings) because suits are much simpler than dresses.

I'd still say sooner is better than later though. At minimum I'd want my FH making a decision 3-4 months out from the wedding and I think 6 months is a good time to start looking. Another thing to consider is if you are outfitting a party of groomsmen in matching attire, or if you are requiring bridesmaids to wear dresses in coordinating colors. If so give yourself more time because the men will all need to get fitted as well and the retailer you rent from will have to coordinate all of those outfits for the same time. If any of your groomsmen are really small or really big or tall dudes, don't live nearby, or don't work regular hours those factors can all influence how quickly they'll be able to get a suit fitted as well, so consider that too. My FH was the best man in a wedding and the nearest Men's Warehouse was over an hour from us, so it wasn't easy for him to go get fitted right away. If you want your bridesmaids to coordinate, it usually takes longer for women's dresses to come in and be fitted, so your guy will have to decide on his accent colors at the very least earlier, so there is enough time for your girls to get dresses fitted that match.

You're right! I didn't even think of the groomsmen. Luckily, I have a maid of honor and a bridesman so I gave them free range of picking what they feel suited for as long as it's in gold (gold accents for the bridesman though). I think the groomsmen though will follow the same guidelines however I should probably mention it to my fiance to let them know sooner than later since I know him and he will most likely not even think of his groomsmen's attire.

    Date twins!!
We actually just picked ours out this week. He's had an idea of what he wanted, and we are actually renting from an online store because no where here carried what he wanted (his tux jacket will be plum). We sat down one night this week and worked through everything, and he will be going in the next few weeks to be measured with all of his guys. The site we are ordering from suggests putting the order in before January, but I would like it done sooner!

My fiance' started looking for a tux shortly after I said yes. He had his guys together for fittings a month or two before i got my girls together. We wasted no time. The sooner, the better.

Obviously the site requires their measurements correct? I think firsthand we need to go get his measurements because like your FH mine wants a more uncommon color (red or dark red) and I think we'll have more options online

Wow how'd you get your fiance to be so eager with his fitting? Mine has zero involvement in the wedding so it's a struggle reminding him to jump on it and start looking

Honestly, Kimberly. I am shocked. Usually he is not involved unless it something that he wants to do, but he has be there every minute of the way which I thinks is why I am not so stressed about when it comes to planning. He says "Its his day too", not just mine so he wants to be involved. Lol
