What's your RSVP response rate?

Hallie, on August 29, 2016 at 5:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Hi everyone,

I sent out our invites in July and the RSVP deadline is September 10th. I have gotten responses from 15% of the list (we went with the online RSVP tool). Is this average? I'm starting to think that everyone is just assuming we know that "of course they wouldn't miss it"!

Half of my guests rsvped in time the other half we had to hunt down. Most of them were yes but a lot of no's also.

I'm at about a 40% response rate. It seems some of the missing RSVPs are of the "I assumed you knew" category (I know from checking the hotel block there are a few). Although others I think are more likely to still be unsure if they can get off of work, or may have forgotten the response.

We will be following up with every missing RSVP, even the ones we know are attending as we need to know meal choices/do a seating chart. Our RSVP deadline is in a few days.

Whyyyy is your RSVP date 6 weeks before your wedding?! You sent out invites way early, which is probably why you don't have many RSVPs back yet.

Many people don't get their time off of work approved until 30 days out. Hence the reason RSVPs are recommended to be due 2-3 weeks before your wedding, so you can contact people and get answers if they don't respond and still get final numbers to caterers.

Most of my RSVPs came a couple days before my deadline. They trickled in at first but I got 80% of my rsvps at the last minute.

I've gotten about 50% so far. My due date is this Friday. I must admit I cheated; over the last few days I've sent out "nudges - ie; invitations were mailed, check out website RSVP by __" and have gotten more responses. One of my "cheats" - reminding people to RSVP I got the response "you know I won't miss it" - I told them to send the reply anyway. I know you are suppose to wait but my friends need "nudges"!

ETA - early response date due to caterer needs numbers before 09/15
