whats your favorite summer beer?

future mrs hall, on December 18, 2014 at 5:50 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

Trying to find a few beers to serve, we will for sure have blue moon, and then I was thinking maybe a cheaper/light beer or something and possibly a Mexican beer since its quatro de mayo.

what do you guys like?

Maybe look into getting beer from local breweries - personal preference but when i travel i always like to try the local stuff.

But if not I love Blue Moon, I like leinenkugel's summer shandy - also google: http://www.realsimple.com/food-recipes/shopping-storing/beverages/refreshing-summer-brews

I absolutely love a shandy in the summer. The lienenkugel shandy and the and Sam Adams porch rocker are two of my favorites.

I also like shock top with an orange slice in the summer.

Another odd combination that is delicious in the summer is bud light lime with a shot or two of St. Germaine (elderflower liquor). Probably not feasible for serving at your wedding, but on the topic of favorite summer drinks that popped into my head.

So the deal is, I'm not a beer drinker. fh likes blue moon & shocktop a lot but apparently theyre super similar, so I wanted to find a bit of variety. I know that leinenkugel's summer shandy was a big seller when I worked at a liquor store. is it like a different style of beer that bluemoon? also, everyone keeps telling me to include a cheaper beer but fh is not a fan so I don't know what I'd pick there. maybe I should try and find some sort of infographic that explains beer types to me.

eta: when I figure out types, I love the idea of a local craft beer. it just made me think of another big seller at the liquor store, san tan brewery mr pineapple, but I don't know if its also just like bluemoon. hahaha this is the hardest part of wedding stuff for me.

Blue Moon and shock top are very similar. I don't know about this local beers, so I cannot say whether they're similar to the two.

Shandy is a bit different from blue moon, but they're on a similar spectrum since they are both beer with citrus flavors. Someone who likes Blue Moon probably also likes shandy, and someone who dislikes blue moon probably also dislikes shandy. To be honest, if you want some more variety, then I would go for the Blue Moon and then a cheap light beer (read: bud/bud lite, heineken, corona, something like that) instead of doubling up on the true summery beers.

As far as a Mexican beer, would corona be the choice of majority?

as far as a cheap light beer would bud be a safe choice? the difference in bud, miller, coors, is just preference right?

I think I might have to start polling people on beer selections.

You could do a basic ale or lager from a local brewery. Just ask what their most popular beers are.

Blue moon and shock top are wheat beers. Perfect for summer, but not everyone likes them so that's why I recommended a more basic ale or lager.

Shandy is beer mixed with lemonade or another juice type thing. I'm not clear exactly what they are haha, but I love them! They are different from wheat beers.

Thank you ladies! I've been polling everyone at work and EVERYONE has given a different answer hahaha. I'm going to meet with one of my beer drinker friends after work and discuss it with him.

eta: thanks for the advice on the basic lager @lori, that's kinda my issue, finding one that semi universal for the people who don't like the wheat beer.

I am also a big fan of the Summer Shandy 8815wedding mentioned. So refreshing! I would also throw in a regional/local beer if you have a good one available. I am in Georgia and will try to get some Sweetwater for our event.

Ithaca brewing company apricot wheat is by far the best summer beer, or 21st American century watermelon wheat ahh if I close my eyes I can almost taste them!

Sam Adams Porch Rocker is my favorite summer beer EVER. Their Summer Ale is good too, but the Porch Rocker is amazing.
