What's your favorite memory with your significant other?

Cam, on April 9, 2017 at 2:42 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 35

I was talking with FH about a few of our favorite memories together and it was such a nice conversation that I wanted to bring it here. What is your favorite memory (or memories) with your significant other?

We've had some great ones. My favorite probably was when he proposed obviously. But, I will never forget the moment he told me, "I love your family. Like... I love them Hannah"

My brother is special needs and they just clicked and he's fantastic with him. He's been with me though a lot of things and seen everyone at their highest highs and lowest lows.

It was the best when he told me that because I then knew it was meant to me <3

Oh, & when he first said I'm in love with you

We were housesitting together and on the first night, we turned in early just to cuddle together in bed listening to the crickets and owls outside. It was so lovely. (Note: I had to write this post about 7 times because I couldn't pick a memory. Love my babe.)

This may sound silly. I've known FH for close to 10 years. We're coming up on 2.5 years. He was in town on leave and I was single. It was my birthday and he asked me if he could buy me dessert.

I hadn't seen him since he deployed 3 years prior and always remembered him as this skinny guy and dorky as hell. Let me tell you when he got in my car he was gorgeous and the army did him good. First words out of my mouth were "Damn you look good"

It was a good laugh and we've been laughing together ever since. ETA: he's still dorky as hell and I wouldn't have him any other way.

Almost 5 years ago I was studying abroad in Ireland. FH worked an extra job to save money to come visit me. He then surprised me with a trip to Paris! It was perfect and so romantic! Our first night he took me to the top of the Eiffel Tower to kiss me at sunset!

Announcing our engagement to my family! It was Christmas Eve and he suggested everyone get in front of the fireplace for a family picture. He said 1...2...3...everyone say we're engaged and I held up my hand! It was a complete surprise to everyone but my dad of course who was in on it! Eta: we also did it for my Inlaws but I don't know how to add 2 photos! I will cherish these photos forever!

When FH turned 21, I bought him an ice cream cake because he prefers them over regular cakes. He got very drunk (obviously) and ended up putting the cake in the refrigerator instead of the freezer without anyone noticing. The next morning, it was EVERYWHERE! We put what was left on the tray into a bowl and sat on the floor, hungover, drinking the soupy cake with spoons. I think that was one of the first times I didn't just see him as my boyfriend, but truly as my best friend who I could just do best friend stuff with.

It's now become a tradition for me to buy (and melt) him an ice cream cake every year so we can have bowls of it!

On our first date a little boy walked past our table with a balloon saying "I have a balloon" in a robot voice. Then (after I thought he was totally not interested) after dinner he asked if I wanted to go to best buy. We walked around then sat in his car playing hangman and pictionairy in the fog on the window of his car. (Mind you this was the first time we met!). Then on our fourth date, he drove 30 minutes to my house, just to drive to dinner an hour away (he lived in the middle). Then after he said "I'm not ready to end this night yet" and took the long way home (an extra 45 mins). We then saw a shooting star and had our first kiss. The next day he surprised me at my car after work with flowers. All memories are my favorite but I can't help but swoon over our beginning.

When we first started dating, my parents didn't approve of my relationship as I was only 17 and he was 20. We used to sneak away to this waterfall by my home and just sit on the rocks, listening to the water, looking at the stars, and talking about life. 5 years later, my family loves him and he proposed to me in the same spot we used to sneak away to. (I have so many awesome memories with my love but this has to be one of my favorites)

When my FH brought me to his military ball. It meant a lot to me that he had asked me to go and that he was excited to introduce me to all of his friends! It was our first getaway too which was awesome!

FH and I both love camping. We feel so connected when we're outdoors. We decided to do a spur of the moment camping trip in our local mountains (not uncommon for us). We got there. Hiked. Walked through a quaint mountain town and went back to our campsite made dinner and set up camp.

After dinner I started not feeling well but kept it to myself. Come time for bed we realized we managed to leave the house without pillows or extra blankets and all we had was our double sleeping bag. It started getting cold pretty quick and I started to feel REALLY Sick suddenly. Trying to keep it together I rolled over and faced FH who looked miserable. Apparently he too wasn't feeling well, but neither of us said anything as we didn't want to ruin the trip for the other person. We threw all our stuff in the bed of the truck and drove home in the middle of the night. Knowing we were both going to lay there all night sick and cold so the other person was happy, was such a Sweet realization. Going home and spending the next day sick in bed together was pretty good too.

ETA; wow that got long fast. Oops

This is such a great question. I've been thinking about it for at least 15 minutes after seeing this thread because it's so hard to pick just one memory!

I'd say my favorite would have to be our first date. He put so much time and effort into planning it. It was a complete surprise, and he brought me 40 sunflowers! (They're my favorite and later I found out he ordered that many accidentally) He took me to Longwood Gardens and it was rainy so there wasn't really anyone there. It even makes me smile just thinking about it.

I also asked him this question and he said "when we first met and watched the sunrise on the beach."

A month or two into our relationship we were on the subway home to his apartment. He randomly asked what I thought of *insert name* for a son if we had one and then we proceeded to talk about baby names. It's a favorite memory because neither one of us ever wanted to have kids or get married before we met each other and that day is when we both knew we wanted both with each other.

He also has frequent dance parties with our cat and there's no way that doesn't make the favorite memories list.

When I had a really hard test in college on a weekday, and surprised me by visiting me and taking me out to eat. He drove over an hour when he had to work early the next morning. Two winning things:

    1. Surprise visit

    2. Food!

FH and I did a long distance thing for a while. I remember the very first weekend he came out to visit we went into Boston to the Museum of Science. We held hands the whole time. While there we went to the planetarium and watched the presentation "the sky tonight". Once we got home we grabbed some blankets and headed out in the yard in the dark to watch the meteor shower. It was the first time I had ever sat down to watch one so I got all excited every time we saw one. Then I looked over at him to ask him if he just saw the really cool blue one and he was just laying there looking at me. I forget what he said exactly (damnit!) but it was along the lines of you're more beautiful than any meteor, colored or not!

So that's the romantic part of the memory. A while later we heard a pack of coyotes somewhere nearby. I got nervous and asked if we should go inside and he said not to worry about it, they weren't that close. So a little while later we heard them again but they sounded much closer. So he said "hmm maybe we should go in now." That was all the instruction I needed, I scooped up the blankets and pillows and practically ran to the front door. FH never lets me live it down that he got up to help pick everything up but by the time he turned around it was all in my arms and I was running toward the door! I get teased about that a lot when we're outside and hear wild animals. "Uhoh do we need to go inside?!" lol he's an adorable jerk about it. Love him so much!

I have so many but when our son was born! We struggled with infertility so when I looked over and saw him crying and kissing our son it was the best moment ever! Makes me teary eyed thinking about it

Sooo many to choose from... one of my all-time favorites was only about a week after we made our relationship official. We went on a date to a local brewery - while he went up to the bar to get us another round, I was approached by an older woman who told me how much she enjoyed seeing the way we looked at each other and that she could tell how happy we were. It made both of us feel amazing that someone else noticed us - later that day was the first time we said "I love you" to each other!

We were on vacation in Edinburgh and he had found us a castle to stay in. Then, we got a free upgrade in the castle, so our room had a soaker tub, a four-post bed, and a private entrance (exit?) to the back garden area with two horses in the back... IN A CASTLE. I felt like a princess who had found my Prince Charming!
