I've seen a few posts lately about brides who are feeling self-conscious of their nontraditional wedding decisions. I just wanted to take a second to celebrate these women and their "different" choices. I think that no matter your budget, a wedding is special because it celebrates the union of two individuals and combines families, cultures, and tastes.

So, let's hear it, ladies: what makes YOUR wedding awesome and unique?

What makes my day special? Maybe that it isn't really a day but kinda a long weekend.

Because it is a DW it is like a big long party with all my favorite people. People arrive on Thursday for Thanksgiving-have Thanksgiving with us if they like, have brunch with us on Friday morning..then off to play at the bouncy house and bouncy slide that will be set up, go to wine tastings, and other fun activities (for adults and kids), then to city of lights to see christmas vendors, sleigh rides, fire works and more and then our after party beer and pizza, then brunch on Saturday, more fun family events, Kids Party run by a daycare for kids that want to not be at the wedding or parents that don't want kids at the wedding, then wedding/reception, and brunch (with santa this time and we are celebrating the birthdays of the people that had them that weekend) again all together the next day before people head back home.

Biggest unique thing about the wedding/reception...not that much other than I will have made our ceremony background, I wrote our ceremony-and it is super readery...with no mention of god, a friend of mines kid is going to sing...and we are going to have a guitar and fiddle player doing the music? Maybe that we are going to have edible centerpieces? LOL its not that unique I don't think. It is in NOv..so off season may feel the most different?

Haha, all weddings are unique! But I guess FH and I have some touches others won't:

-We're trying to keep everything local, so within 2 hours of our venue. That gives us the opportunity to show off our college town, which is where we're getting married and is AWESOME, and the opportunity to show off Seattle, which is where we live and also AWESOME. We are using wine bottles and corks from local wineries, using Seattle chocolates as our favors, and found vendors for flowers, catering, and cupcakes that use local ingredients only. We also are having a smaller (75 person) wedding, so our table "numbers" will instead be neighborhoods of Seattle. We're having them designed right now and they look so good!

-We also found an excellent cake topper where the bride is wearing a cheesehead and a Packer jersey while the groom is wearing a Seahawk jersey. I am so stoked for this haha, we're both big NFL fans.

-My stepdad is brewing the beer, and he'll be our officiant. My mom is walking me down the aisle.

    * We're having 2 weddings- a Chinese Tea Ceremony and a traditional American Wedding

*Our American wedding will be Sunday Brunch

*Instead of a unity candle or sand ceremony we're serving tea to our parents.

Hmm... that's all I can think of for now.

L + A that is so cool that your doing the local thing! Smiley smile very neat. I adored my last two visits to seattle...so many awesome local food vendors and local movement! Yu are going to have some lucky guests! I think it is sorta funny that now that I live in rural mn that less of what I eat and consume is local then when I lived in the cities. Smiley smile

Nothing unique, but we had personal touches. We never strived for "unique" - we strived for "personal."

Our toasting flutes were 16th century leather wine goblets from London, our table names were Shakespeare plays, I walked down to the Star Wars Throne Room song, we had home-brewed beer,

Thanks @NorthernMN. Anytime you come back to Seattle, hit me up! I love showing off my city Smiley smile It was surprisingly easy to find vendors who do all local, I thought it would be a lot harder. We're excited, especially for our OOT guests and those that aren't from OOT, but haven't been to our college city... it's a whole different city than Seattle and it's amazing! I get what you're saying with the rural area, it's way easier to eat local in Seattle proper than where I grew up outside of Seattle, it's weird!

@EricaTX 16th century leather wine goblets?! How did you find those? That is the coolest thing I have ever heard of!
