What's Unique About Your Wedding?

I've seen a few posts lately about brides who are feeling self-conscious of their nontraditional wedding decisions. I just wanted to take a second to celebrate these women and their "different" choices. I think that no matter your budget, a wedding is special because it celebrates the union of two individuals and combines families, cultures, and tastes.

So, let's hear it, ladies: what makes YOUR wedding awesome and unique?

FH and I bonded over science so we are having a science themed wedding! A good half of our guests are all scientists too because apparently we need to get out a little more...

Cutesybuttons, a friend of mine went to a wedding recently where the GM had geode slice pins on their lapels. Photos of stained tissue slides make great decorations if you ate into florescent colors! I'm a science teacher, so I have these crazy science ideas even though my wedding will be a lot more traditional and not include them.

Very traditional wedding here- Catholic Mass with all the trimmings, large BP, formal reception, etc. The most unique thing we've chosen so far is to do our first dance at sunset on the patio where the guests can watch through all open doors. Also, our song is from the 70s and very well-known and romantic, yet our photographer said he's never heard of a couple using it then or now. Don't want to say the name because I will jinx it!

Oh the stained tissue slides sound awesome! Our boutonnieres for our groom and groomsmen are going to be in test tubes and have little transfer pipettes and flowers in them! My sister is a science teacher too so she's decorating some of our stuff for us too! I'm excited to see how it comes together.

Our wedding is on a Wednesday afternoon (NYE). We wanted to keep our date but not exclude grandparents if we had it at night. We are having a bluegrass band play our whole wedding (prelude through reception). We are having a relaxed reception with live music - trying to keep an "afternoon in a park with live music playing" type of vibe for our reception.

My dad wrote a song for me the day I was born- he's going to record it with some friends and that will be the song he and I dance to for Father/Daughter dance.

FH and I met doing a show and so we have a slight theatrical theme - invites that look like show tickets and a program for the day designed like a playbill.

Still just under a year away but I'm so excited! I wish there were more things to be planning/doing now!

Ours will be unique because..we are only having our parents as guests, it's on a Wednesday night, there won't be a reception just a dinner, and most likely no decor other than my bouquet!

Hahaha V you made me laugh out loud :-)

I would sayyyyy...all the personal touches and thought that went into about 99% of this wedding. We have signature drinks named after our cats, the centerpieces are beer growlers with framed pics of random friends and guests collecting them for us, most of the music being played is by unknown artists (covers or originals), my niece/FG is carrying my childhood teddy bear down the aisle instead of petals or whatever, my brother, mom and stepmom are all standing when I get to the end of the aisle and helping my dad give me away, I'm wearing blue statement jewelry, I wrote our entire ceremony, I have a man on my side of the bridal party, MMMbop is my cake cutting song bc I was a hugeeee Hanson fan growing up, our reception is actually in the spot where FH proposed, most everything is similar to the same colors as the Detroit Lions colors, our wedding is at a flipping brewery anddddd the Lions mascot is coming to party with us :-)

Typing all that makes me proud of this wedding!!

I think the media pressure to be 'unique' has everyone going crazy. It's unique because you're there. Anything else is a bonus.

    Nothing.

It would be very hard to come up with something no one had ever done before. To me it doesn't need to be unique it just need to be ours. And if that is the same as a Millions then so be it

My dad married us. It was awesome to have such a personalized ceremony from someone who knows us both so well.

I walked down the aisle to Sweet Child O Mine by GnR. DH sings it for me during Karaoke every chance he gets because I LOVE GnR. Also we had a time capsule guest book. Each guest left us a "message in a bottle" that we get to extract and read on our one-year anniversary.

Our unique feature is...we are ALREADY married! And we are calling it a wedding not a renewal haha! I know people disagree but that's okay we do what makes us happy.

No, Jessica. There is so much about our wedding that is crazy. For starters, we are getting married in our House of Representatives chamber. It's been done once before, but this is the first time that guests will be in the seats. I have a bunch of Gamecock elements, which is unique here, but not AS much where I live. I am walking down the aisle to 2001: A Space Odyssey. And the back of my dress is ridiculous.

I was suppose to have a June wedding on a riverboat but that got canned. Now I am having a 11-28-2015 wedding date with a Victorian Christmas theme. I will have carriage rides through the park for my guest and my best friend is giving me away. Both my parents will be attending and participating in what I am calling the parade of parents at the beginning of the wedding. I am having a Barista and not any alcoholic beverages served and I am having a cake and pie buffet no big wedding cake. Besides that it is a traditional wedding. I love uniqueness and different things. So many different fun sounding weddings happening. Good luck and happy planning.

My FH picked the "theme" and the color scheme. So we're having a cobalt blue and gold wedding with Dr. Who touches. We're getting married on a Friday, and are doing all paper flowers. We're having live ukulele music played during the processional and the recessional as well as during the cocktail hour. We plan on doing some of our wedding pictures next door at our favorite pool hall and will be using a few Czech traditions in the ceremony and reception.

Our ring barers carried horseshoes down the aisle, not pillows

My prewedding nails/toes were done with my mom, not my girls

My dad, brother, husband, and husbands nephew did all the decorating. I literally did finishing touches is all!!

My MOH didn't attend the wedding, so hubby's sister did the typical MOH duties (Holding my boquet, signing the license, speech)

Still in the beginning of the planning phase, but so far:

~There will be 2 brides, no groom.

~The only male in our wedding party will be the ring bearer. (We will each have a MOH and bridesmaid). And it consists of family ONLY. My MOH is my identical twin!

~Our mothers will be walking us down the aisle.

~There will be no father/daughter, or mother/son dances.

~We will invite all the couples to share our first dance.

    ~No garter or bouquet toss.

MichiganBride, I LOVE your idea for drinks named after your cats. I could totally see my cat-loving friends doing that if they could go back in time and get married again. LOL
