What's the most offensive / major etiquette faux pas that a guest did to you?

Andrea, on October 14, 2014 at 7:10 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 37

I just want to prepare myself because I heard some horror stories from coworkers and family members, such as 20 people cancelled at the last minute on attending, sending a picture of what a guest says they meant to get but didn't for whatever reason, etc.

A family member of mine cancelled because he could not travel due to health reasons. The next thing I know he is posting photos on Facebook of him and his wife in Hawaii, two days after my wedding. So yeah that was pretty rude.

@Staci...omg I'd be pissed, it's like, was it really that hard to say that you'll be away on your wedding day and can't make it...he's also not the sharpest tool in the shed for making it obvious that he lied

We had around 20-25 no shows. Please don't attack me WW world for saying this - but we had about 15 guests/couples not give a gift - not even a card.

So far, people asking for extra guests, then worse yet, offering to pay for them. FH's great aunt asking to bring a 12 year old as her guest. My mother doesn't want to be seated last because I'm too old, out of 59 invites, I only received 39 RSVPs back. This is from, overall, a group of people that attended etiquette classes in their childhood. I kid you not.

Gamecock Mrs I don't think anybody should attack you. I think old rude to attend any event your invited to without taking a gift...birthday party, shower, wedding...always bring a gift!

@Gamecock Mrs, I'd be ticked too, but I told myself that whoever does that will not get a thank you card because what would you be thanking them for? The fact that they took advantage of getting a free meal?...screw that lol. I also figure when people that got a gift received a thank you and they didn't, they'll get the message. Sorry I know I sound like a b*tch, but that's me lol

I did say something, and he told me that he could only not travel for the exact number of days up until my wedding. Pretty convenient excuse.

@gamecock mrs, if they ask about their thank you card, who would dare, say oh no, you should have gotten one, we checked off the card we sent off the gift list to be sure we got everyone. hahaha

I haven't decided whether or not they will get thank you cards. I know it's a big debate here. I always ere on the side of being overly thankful. But if they do get one, it will be after everyone else's!

I want to send a $91 invoice to the no shows.

It didn't happen to me, but to a friend. Her aunt invited 10 people to the reception throwing off the seating chart because she pushed two tables (for the BP) together.

It takes less than 10 seconds to sign a card. -.-

    Some people, really.

I would have told that aunt to cough up the extra dough for those 10 people, otherwise those people will be turned away at the door. Plus she's an aunt, what right did she have inviting people anyway?!

I had 12ish no shows. That sucked. I wasn't out any money, but it irritated me because I could have invited other people.

I'd want to send the invoice too because I'm paying $120 per person, and that's not bad at all for north NJ. Still that's money that could have stayed in your pocket

I feel for ya Gamecock Mrs.....my momma raised me better too. All occasions where someone else is hosting deserve a gift (at the very least a bottle of wine). Strange to me that people don't gift and show. Maybe they are sending something in the mail afterwards?
