What's the difference between a maid of honor and a matron of honor?

This may be a silly question but ... What's the difference between a maid of honor and a matron of honor?

A matron of honor is a married woman and a maid of honor is single...that's the ONLY difference. You could have one or both or none.

No worries. My Matron (who is a dear friend of mine) was so goofy that she thought that she should be the Maid even though she is married. LOL We straightened her out though.

I think some people think they are both positions that you need to fill...but really it's only the title. Like Mrs. vs Miss. Funny though how we don't call married bridesmaids - bridesmatrons.
