This past weekend a good friend of mine got married. Her fiancé (now husband!) is Greek and it just so happened that his sister was also engaged. Since majority of their family would be flying in from Greece, to avoid them having to make two trips, the family decided to have a double wedding! Two ceremonies, two brides, two grooms, one huge reception with 650 people!!! Idk if any of you have ever been to a Greek or Albanian wedding, but they sure do know how to party! My family is Albanian so I knew what to expect...but it was still such a fun wedding! And very well organized (surprisingly)!!

What is the craziest wedding you've been to?!

Self-catered. Ran out of food and the bride's stepfather went to the grocery store to buy steaks to grill. The seating was outside under a small tent and it rained the night before and blew the sides of the tent in so the tables and chairs were soaked. Never got a thank you card for the shower or wedding, and recently found out that they're not even legally married because the groom never signed some important papers (he's from New Zealand).

It was nuts, guys. One of those, "Is this really happening?" type things.

And no, I didn't reach out. It was obvious that there were family issues, and I just didn't want to ask about it or cause any drama by inquiring. And I haven't heard anything from the groom/bride since the wedding.

But damn, those little pig cookies were to die for....

When I was maybe 15 or so, I went to my mom's cousin's wedding. First of all, it started an hour late, because either the bride's bouquet hadn't come or it was wrong or she'd lost it. But we were all seated waiting for it to start, and the ushers wouldn't let us get back up when it became clear it wasn't starting any time soon. So my predominant memory of the ceremony is how badly I needed to pee. And the bride was obviously really annoyed and said all her vows in this angry, bitchy tone and threw her replacement flowers on the ground on her way out of the room.

Then, at the reception, the groom got blindingly drink and started sobbing and rambling and telling everyone how much he wished he was marrying his ex instead. The best man kept trying to shut him up and get him out of there, so the groom started trying to fight him.

Just two lovely people who obviously deserved each other. Shame it didn't work out.

One of my best friends from middle/high school was supposed to have a sunset wedding. Well...the wedding started almost 3 HOURS late, around 9 PM, and we missed the sunset. On top of all of that, dinner wasn't even served until 11 PM, and I was starving since we had been there since 5 PM. And lastly, they had a cap on alcohol once they reached a certain amount, and apparently all the douchebag groomsmen were taking shots and reached the minimum before the wedding even started. Unfortunately, they got divorced less than a year later.

I had the big Greek Wedding.

But i remember one Greek/Polish wedding I went to growing up. Groom was Greek and was family friends with my mom. One very drunk Polish guest hit on my mom in front of the groom and the groom and him almost go into it. My mom was able to defuse it before it got worse.

One other Greek wedding i went to, the daughter of the banquet owner got married (one of the original owners of the Fountain blue outside of Chicago, my dad worked there back then). They had horse drawn carriages with a police escort; cocktail hour was outside; the BM dresses were the full hoop shirts with umbrellas, very Southern Belle. I was a little kid and the I still remember all the glamour. This was back in the 80s.

This wasn't horrible but still bad: I was in my friends wedding last summer and at the rehearsal the officiant as 90 minutes late so we all had to wait for him. It was already a late rehearsal and then it didn't start til 7:30 so we didn't get dinner til almost 9 after driving a half hour to the dinner location. The officiant seemed so frazzled but I chalked it up to being late.

The next day the officiant went off script and his "cute story" about how they met and their relationship included their 1 year break up (awkward!!) and then he called the bride "Terrace" the whole ceremony not "Teresa".

I have two, one awful and one pretty cool:

    1. I piggy bank got passed around to the tables with a sign that said "Donations". They literally shook a can at me during their wedding. WTF. How do people not understand this is rude???

    2. The closing song of a reception was "Smoke Two Joints" by Sublime. B&G lit up a joint each and passed it around the dance floor to the guests!

I've told this story before. I went to a wedding where the bride (my cousin) and groom hated each other. Back story, they had been on and off for the better part of a decade. They got married because the bride's mother figured it had been long enough and just planned the wedding.

They didn't look at each other during the ceremony. In their personalized vows, he talked about her forgiving heart and willingness to take him back. Her vows included: "our relationship has been like a roller coaster, and now we're at the very top looking over everything we've been through."

At the reception, the first dance was so awkward. No eye contact and the groom motioned to the DJ to cut the song short. The groom and bride's brother got into a screaming match in the hall about how he'd never deserve her. The groom was so drunk by the cake cutting, he slapped the cake across her face and laughed as he spilled champagne all over her dress and people tried to clean her up.

Their marriage didn't last a year. In her email announcement, the bride cited "his addictions" as the reason for their breakup. Luckily, the house and all their possessions were bought by her before the wedding. She since found somebody new and we're all happy for her Smiley smile

My DH's family struggles with planning weddings that are properly hosted or are just weird in general. Here are some of my favorite highlights:

    1) Brother got married at the top of a mountain (had to ride a gondola to the top and then walk another half mile in our wedding attire) to a very young bride who was already on her 3rd marriage and he proposed after knowing her for a very short time (about 3 months) with his ex-fiance's ring. The groom was wearing a t-shirt tux. They had a heart shaped funfetti lime green cake made by the best friend of the bride. They are no longer together.

    2) His cousin got married at a church and we had to drive to a separate space for the reception (no big!) We find our seats and other people start filing in. DH is from a small town and his uncle is the pastor of the local church, the whole town was basically invited. They didn't have enough seats for everyone, the MoB and FoB had nowhere to sit, they ran out of food, and they had a friendor DJ from his computer, which had a windows live update in the middle of the first dance.

    3) His sister had a pretty hipster PNW wedding. She got married at a train depot and a train rolled through during the ceremony. There was no rehearsal, so the bridal party was out of sorts as they walked down the aisle. They ran out of food and someone actually played a xylophone for the first dance. The FoB kept wondering if he was going to get a Father/Daughter dance, but the daughter did not want one, however, she had not communicated this to FoB. He was greatly disappointed.

Always a good time. The good thing is that he learned from all of this and we worked diligently to make sure we had an awesome wedding.

That sounds like a crazy good time OP! My wedding was pretty atypical. We got married live on Good Morning America with 15 other couples. All the other weddings I've attended have been very standard.

Oy, there have been a few involving my cousins.

Cousin 1: She was preggo and married right out of high school. I was 13. Courthouse wedding with a dinner after (no disrespect meant to those who do this, it's just what it was), our grandfather objected to the wedding "in jest." (I think he meant it, but he also likes attention) I played "My Heart Will Go On" for them on my flute. When the time came to cut the cake, the groom smashed the cake so hard into my cousin's face that she, very heavily pregnant, fell over. They didn't last -- he likes to assist with robberies, as it turns out.

Cousin 2: I didn't attend the wedding, but I heard I missed a shit show. He married the woman who cheated on him and had another man's child while he was in Afghanistan. Camo and Blaze Orange were the colors, and it was a BYOB/Potluck in the brides' parents' backyard...which is tacky on its own but made worse by their not informing ANYONE until they showed up. So the guests arrived, were told they had to supply their own food/booze, and then had to drive back into town to get it. There was much mooning of the camera, and even the pictures without asses in them were just...ugh.

Alright, so I have a couple, all different weddings:

    - Wedding theme was ICP and the wedding party wore clown makeup and had Insane Clown Posse posters and decorations

    - Bride was already drunk and nearly tripped down the aisle on her 5" heals. A couple went around trying to find a third person to party with, if you know what I mean.

    - At my mom's second wedding her mom threw a fit about the music and locked herself upstairs until it was agreed that she could be in charge of it, so she could dance. After everyone got tired of her shit, she went home to change (20 min drive to and from), came back in a white dress, and changed the music anyway.

    - Friend had a wedding ceremony one week, and the reception the next. Her MOH was taking selfies through the whole ceremony.

-Groom got lost on the way to the reception, was nearly 2 hours late, then missed his first dance because he got lost on the golf course.

So needless to say, even if my wedding doesn't go exactly as planned, I think it'll be a little better than some I've attended in the past.

JamieLynn: Sorry about the Amish wedding experience. If I had to make a guess, I bet the person that gave you trouble was some pushy relative that had no right to do so.

That is unfortunate that this happened if there was no dress code mentioned.

I feel bad that someone spoke to you like that.

    edit for add on

cont- as for crazy weddings, I'm been to a lot of them that were very different from each other, but the craziest ones were probably the ones at medieval reenactment wars, but also the most fun. Smiley smile

StitchingBride - That's what I figured, too. I doubt my friend even knew I was asked to cover up or asked to leave. And there was absolutely no mention of dress code, nothing at all on the invitation.

I stuck out like a sore thumb in my dress, since the other females were completely covered, but my dress was fairly modest and simple. Nothing blingy or short or anything like that. If I remember right, I think I even removed my jewelry when I returned for round 2, just to "fit in" more. It will be a story I never forget, so I guess there's that! Smiley smile

Most weddings I've been to have been pretty standard. The most unique was a Halloween wedding where I was a bridesmaid. The bride and groom were Mario and Princess Peach. All of the wedding party were also in costumes. I (Peter Pan) walked down the aisle with a hot dog (bride's brother). It was a sweet wedding though. The bride's grandparents couldn't make it since one was ill, so the hot dog (unbeknownst to the bride) broadcasted the whole wedding to him on the iPad he hid in the bun. She cried when she found out they'd gotten to see her get married.
