What typical "wedding aspects" did you skip to save money?

Just curious what everyone's top priorities were when planning their weddings. I know I personally skipped the engagement session photos, because my dad had a nice camera and he takes nice pictures. I chose not to pay someone for this service. What did you guys "skip" that most brides/grooms do...

What did you guys "skip" that most brides/grooms do before/on the big day?

We're not doing favors, engagement photos, transportation, programs, basically anything we see as unnecessary

We skipped expensive invites, programs, food menu, photo booth, a post wedding brunch, honeymoon and a 2nd ceremony.

We had a DW so we had a much smaller guest list. We also had small centerpieces and minimal flower decor, we had a casual rehearsal in our suite and than we took everyone out to eat pizza. We bought and brought our own top shelf alcohol and wine to the reception and we had plenty left over. We also saved some money by buying some of our items in China (cute couple figurines we used with the centerpieces and our cut out boxes for our favors) vs. on Oriental trading. We also bought our Godiva chocolate (favors) here in the states and traveled with them to Shanghai because it is 3x as much in China for them. Finally, since we skipped the photo booth we had a Instax Mini guestbook, where guests were also able to take photos home with them. My sister and her bf volunteered to do this for me and I gifted them my extra camera.

No programs, menus, photo booth, videographer, bouquet toss, and limo/transportation. We're doing inexpensive invitations. We bought my wedding band during a huge sale

@Brandi we didn't do printed STDs, we created a graphic and emailed it to everyone on our guest list. Grandparents without email have already gotten the memo by this point.

Decor is pretty minimal. Invitations were not fancy. I didn't care about flowers much, so I bought faux bouquets on etsy (later realized because of my allergies I wanted to play it safe anyway) and my mom offered to make the boutonnieres and corsages.

ETA: oh, also a fancy rehearsal dinner. instead, we're buying pizza and beer for everyone and having a bonfire at my parents acreage.

We made our own STDs and sent them out electronically. Our invites we went to Vistaprint and hit their 50% sale which they do pretty often! We are not doing programs. We are using places like Aliexpress.com, Wish.com, and Amazon.com to order most of our wedding decor and favors. It takes a week or two to get the items but its totally worth the money saved. We chose a smaller bridal party. We refuse to do an open bar. I love my friends and family but I also love having some money. We arent really going above and beyond for the wedding. We are keeping it sweet and simple.

We're skipping engagement shoot, programs, photo booth, rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, real flowers. Also not spending too much $ on invites, nor did we do STD. Top priority is food, drinks, & dj.

Skipping spending money to print STDs, flower girls and page boys ( just going to have a little bride and ring bearer), my cousin is doing our makeup for free, getting married at my church so I don't have to pay an officiant, printed menus

Cost savings for a wedding is a huge deal these days! Here is what we are doing:

    - got a beautiful, non-name brand custom dress in the fashion district ( I live in Los Angeles County) got it at a quarter of the cost of a dress in a bridal boutique

    - got 100 STDs for $35 on vistaprint during their black Friday sale last year and got an additional 40% off

    - got an all-inclusive venue where we will have our ceremony and reception. It includes food, open bar, decorations, bridal suite, DJ, photo booth, all rentals ( chairs, linens, tableware, etc.) for 150 people. We booked 14 months in advance, which was a huge savings. The only items not included were flowers and a photographer

    - my fiance's uncle works in TV production and will record the ceremony, otherwise no videographer

-our engagement photos were photos we used from a family photoshoot, not cost there

-my FMIL is gifting us with invitations and programs, otherwise invites would have been on vistaprint with no programs

    - no menus

    -no favors

    - no cake, we love sweets and are having assorted desserts instead and offering baggies to take sweets home

    - got a great deal on an amazing photographer and florist on the app thumbtack where you set your budget and vendors give you quotes within your budget

    - no limo/transportation

    - no props

-no gifts (we do't feel we need to give each other gifts on our wedding day)

    - no garter/bouquet toss

-we're having a Sunday brunch to cut down on venue costs

    Hope this helps!
